The full warranty of my 2009 Vibe is coming to an end (the car just reached 59,000 km, full warranty is 3-year/60,000 km in Canada). I was wondering if it was worth it to pay around $150 to have a full check-up done at the GM car dealer. I never ever had a problem with the car so far, but I'm thinking that I should be careful and maybe have it checked out nonetheless. What do you guys think?
IMO, it depends how long that you plan to keep the car. If you plan to trade it shortly, it's not worth it. But if you plan on keeping it for several years, I'd have the dealer do a full check-up while it's still under warranty to avoid (or try to) expensive expense in a near future.I know that's what i'll do when my Vibe will arrive at close do 60 000 km. It's not 1 year and 2 months old with 27000 km on it.Though, you know that the powertrain has a 5 years / 160 000 km warranty in Canada ?
I wouldn't bother unless you are wondering about something specific that is currently covered... I saw an 09 recently on lease with an elevator service company in my area, plastered with their logo and loaded down with heavy equipment. You can imagine how those guys treat them, and this one was just under 100K already! Service tech told me he'd been driving it for the last year and it was rock solid. I assumed it was a 2.4L, not sure, he didn't know. Anyway - I think yours will be ok !

It basically only covers things that will very likely never happen i.e. you're driving down the road and your engine just randomly catches on fire for no reason.

You drive the car all the time, so unless there is something obviously not functioning or making noise, it is unlikely the dealer will find anything. I do have a good warranty story myself, on our 1993 Toyota Previa minivan, I heard a faint whining noise coming from the rear, it had 58,500 miles on it (60K powertrain warranty). I almost ignored it but took it to the independent shop where I have all our cars serviced, they diagnosed it as coming from the pinion gear in the differential. So I took it to the dealer and got it replaced just under the warranty.
