replaced pads and rotors.... now i have a crazy noise

Post by jerryjoe28 »

ok about 6 weeks ago i repalced my brake pads and rotors. after the stange brake in noise ( kinda like a space ship taking off when u stop) things where fine for a while. but about 2 weeks ago they started making this odd noise. when u stop ( wihtout slaming on ur brakes) this pop pop pop and knda a grinding noise happens but stops right befor the car completly stops. any idea on what makes this happen?

Jerry Joe - I'd love to help, but I can't pinpoint what I think a spaceship taking off sounds like.Is it like a shuttle launch or like the generic sci-fi pulsating high frequency stuff? Did you lube all the right places?By your describing a pop-pop, it makes me think that a caliper could be dragging...

the space ship noise was like that high pitch noise but it is gone now think it was just the pads brake'n in. but the pop is my prob i did lube the slides and those clips the pads sit on. is there anything else i should lube? and what causes the calapier to drag?

Dragging caliper is caused by a sticking brake piston, which is typically caused by rust due to condensation/moisture. If you were able to compress them for pad replacement you should've seen them move smoothly (albeit requiring some effort).Did you check the shims? Did you put lube behind the pad? That usually helps quiet the pads too.Ultimately, wheel noise can be many many things including bearing issues or suspension issues. Are you absolutely sure it's a brake issue?
