Can anyone please tell me what this might be. When I am going around 45-50mph, and then take my foot off the pedal to slow down, I hear a short whining noise come from the front of my car. It's not high pitched. I'm going on vacation next month and I don't want my transmission to go out or something! Thank you so much......
I found another post where you said you have a 2006. Is it manual or automatic transmission? I guess for either, have you ever had the tranny fluid changed? How many miles on it?
Thanks, I should have mentioned the year. It is a 2006 and it has around 70,000 miles on it. It's an automatic. I have never had the tranny fluid changed either. I will have that checked out and post back. So, even if it never needs added, you still need to change it? I hope that is not a dumb question! lol... Thank you.
its not a dumb question because the owners manual service schedule doesn't mention it, but real world experiences from other genvibers indicate that the fluid does age and should be replaced periodically. at 70K miles, yours is probably getting brown, instead of a nice clear red. Its worth it to get it changed, for the long term health of the transmission. Even just a drain and refill, which is as easy as an oil change. 70K miles on the same fluid isn't something that will kill the tranny, but if you want to keep the car for a long time, consider having the fluid changed at some point. One good thing to keep in mind is that the auto trannies have been pretty reliable. Some have had harsh shifting issues, but very few actual auto tranny deaths. Mine's a manual tranny, so I don't know what sounds are normal for the auto tranny. It might not be tranny related, I am just biased against the reliability of the 5 speed manuals in these cars, so I jump to that first Is this sound something new, or might it have been like that for a while?
Good to hear that the trannies are reliabe. I'll get the fluid changed this week. The sound has been there for, I would say, about six months. I have another 30,000 on my extended warranty so I was hoping to find out by then what the problem is. I guess I have a couple more years to find out! But, yea, about six months or so.
Yo I think I have the same noise!Sometimes it'll do it whilst idling...Sometimes when I stop accelerating...Sometimes right when accelerating from a dead stop..Never thought much of it because it's almost unnoticeable and I've had ZERO issues from this car like ever.
