Truck bed coating on grey body cladding?

Post by mmendez72 »

Any one ever tried it before?. I used bumper spray coating and it worked good but it eventually chipped off. I was thinking about using a rubber spray or truck bed coating or whats called a underpanel spray thats rubberized.......

Holy cow, sorry no one jumped on this for you... so I'll give it a shot! There was a posting last year about one of the forum members using some type/brand of Rhino Coat or other in the back of his Vibe. You can do a search for the particular thread on this forum if you want. I can't see why you can't coat the back plastic load area with something like Rhino lining paint/platic or what ever it is. It's a really tough product and holds up great. I'm not pushing Rhino stuff... it's just the only brand name that I can remember right now. Most of these type of products now come more colors than just black, so you could end up with a less industrial "look" back there. Not sure about a rubber product, but there might be. I'm using an industrial type rubber mat 4'X6' that keeps stuff from sliding around and also helps keep the scratches gouges away. Home Depot... about 30 bucks or so. Let us know what you end up doing!

Check out my garage and you can see the pics of it or, better yet, Click Here I used Herculiner and it's held up really well. There have been some places where bc of what I've thrown or placed in there that it's "chipped" or "torn" a little, but you can always go back over it since due to the nature of the bonding. Those spots may look a little shinier BUT since you are dealing with the outside of the Vibe, chances are you won't be throwing stuff on there to cause any issues.

I think he's asking about the exterior plastic cladding?

If it's made of the same as the interior plastic, the outcome should be the same. I just wanted him to know my experience from the interior. Since the exterior won't be getting the abuse that I've put on the interior, shouldn't have any probs.

With it being on the outside, make sure you use something to remove and wax or other cleaning stuff that may have built up over time.

Yah, I should have stated that the plastic cladding outside would probably accept the Rhino Coat. Was using inside plastic load deck as example of the holding power of the product... as it tunrned out... on Wolfman's Vibe.
