Question about mods

Post by Meagan »

I have a 04 vibe. It has the VVTI 16valve engine in it. It not a Gt. But is required to put the higher octane gas in it like 90-94 octane. I want to know why I have to use that octane. I thought it was just used for the Gt's.Since it has the VVTI 16valve. How easy would it be to put a turbo kit in? Am I going to have to change alot of thing? What would I have to change? And can you do twin turbos. I am just curious. What is the Stock Vibe's Horse power and what will A turbo Increase it to. My loving husband who got me into cars unfourtuntly knows nothing about my car. I mean he can work on but he can't answer these questions I have. And Non of the girls in my car club owns a vibe so they wouldn't know either. Thanks for all the help in advance

Who told you had to use premium on your Vibe? The base model with the 1zz engine only requires 87 octane. However if you have a turbo or supercharger you will have to run premium.
Would you agree to debris acceptance? 2003 Vibe GTMods installed GM Top and Mid-Gate Spoilers, Cosmo CAI, TWM Short Shifter with Desert Eagle weighted shift knob, TWM Bronzoil Shifter Cable Bushings, Magnaflow Cat Back Exhaust, Unichip, Injen Billet Aluminum Engine/Sparkplug covers and oil cap, Optima RedTop Battery, Lineage Ground Wire KitAwaiting install: Energy Suspension Motor Mounts, DC Sports Header

When I bought my car. I had put 87 in it. And the check engine light came on the next day. My owners manual says that is is required. Becaue it has the VVTI 16valve Engine. And I even had a obd2 hooked up to it to see why the light was on and the code that it through was for the gas. After I ran the 87 gas out I put fuel cleaner in it with a tank of 93 and the light went turned off when I hit about half a tank with the 93 in it.

There are LOTS of people on here who run 87. Personally I run mid-grade after runiing premium for two years and camm't tell a difference. I have the 03 1.8L vvti just like you. Just my opinion. nyone more educated wanna chime in?lolI think maybe your check engine light was just bad gas in general. Happens to all of us sometimes.

87 is recommended for the 1zz motor. That's what I run in mine and I've never had a problem.
