1zz Dual Chargers

Post by Robo56 »

Hey guys, I'm starting a 1zz build here soon, and I think I would eventually like to run dual chargers, probably MWR turbo kit and a TRD/GM S/C kit.I finally got a beater, so my Celica is now not a DD anymore and now my project Anyway, this isn't set in stone, but is what I would eventually like to do. The only thing I am thinking I'm going to run into is cooling the S/C. I'm trying to think if there is a way I can cool it from the intercooler with the turbo, or if I should cool it via meth?I am pretty sure I have enough room so I don't think that will be a problem. Is there anything else you guys can come up with that you might think would be an obsticle?

your bigest problem will be the engine. what do you plan to do to strengthen it to hold the HP? You will most likely need to stroke it or sleave it or both.Honestly other than saying your twin charged it's pointless. better off going turbo if you want big power numbers and call it a day.FYI most Genviber's aren't hard core modders. Newcelica.org which i'm sure your a member of there as well would be a better option for you to get great info from. "some" of the members there really know their stuff.

Yea like I said, I was just looking into something different. I am going with low compression pistons, MWR bearings throughout, oil pump gearing, fully built head, and a lot more. I have a whole parts list. I'm not doing this tomorrow or anything lol. I know the TRD S/C doesn't produce anything big either, I really just think it would be nice having the S/C feed the Turbo even quicker, and it would be cool to have both too lol.

If you are going to spend that kind of time and money on a project you might as well do it to an engine and car that are worthy, not a 1ZZ in a Celica.

Lol, yea I know. I'm getting some of the parts for cheap from a friend though. I'll probably just end up going with a Turbo setup, and just making good power that way. I just thought it would be cool to do something different, since this is my project car now. I had a 2zz swap, but the engine locked up on me, so I'm just going back to the 1zz since I can't get some good prices on stuff for it.

Since you are thinking about doing something different, have you looking into STS Turbos? You may think about giving them a shot

for the ecotec's going twin charge, they have a bypass so after a certain rpm the SC boost isnt used and its just turbo. ZZP makes that kit. There is no good way to cool the SC as it doesnt have it built in. Unless you find a different SC to run and make a modified IM. You could run meth to help cool the intake air. If you can find a way to make a IM, the M62 from a lsj cobalt has cooling built in.

He was intially disappointed by the m45 kit because ,(if I remember right) it came in one piece with the manifold. As opposed to some Jackson Raciing kits for other cars that came in 2 pieces , and he was able to build a cooler for before the air went into the motor. he actually experimentes with using the m62, and m90 on the 1zz motor. No offense to the enthusiasm to the original poster, but this dual boosting stuff on such a small motor is kind of .......hmmm. For the same money, you could a do a lot with this car and be much happier, as well as novel.

Hey Robo what up!? I'm actually working on the same deal with my vibe, but like you I need to rebuild the motor first and that won't happen until fall..until then I'm trying to draw up plans using the stock s/c is possible, actually with thought into it anything is possible, check out some of my photo's maybe they will give you some ideashttp://www.flickr.com/photos/4...11127/They've been telling my not to or that I shouldn't do things on this site since I've been on here..But I keep doing it, 9psi of boost on a 240k mile motor is possible cause im doing it..So go ahead and have the first dual charged celica, and I might even drop in a 350 small block and make mine rwd just because it can be done...
