09 Vibe GT dash noise

Post by glenninduluth »

Hi! New member here. Just got my new (well, to me anyways:-)) 2009 Vibe GT a week ago. So far so good! Peppy, comfortable car with much better milage than my 2002 Monte Carlo. So far I have only come across one minor problem. I have a squeak coming from somewhere in the dash that I can't pinpoint. Not to noticable and it only happens on bumpy roads(something we have a lot of around here). Seem to be close to the windshield but it's hard to say. The car has 37,000 on it (rental return). I have always been good at fixing little issues like this myself. Have any of you ever had this problem and also how hard is it to get into the dash? I have always owned GM cars but I have to remind myself I now have a "Pontiota" and things may come apart differantly. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Mine makes the same noise, but I just ignore it because it would only get worse if you tried to take things apart to fix it. I know this all too well from messing around with the dash in my old Sunfires too many times.

best way to find the rattle would be to have someone ride with you and apply pressure to different spots to find where the culprit is. After you find the issue spot get some closed cell foam and place between the two surfaces to isolate them. rattle is gone.
Vibe is gone and will be missed as I've gone country style

My stereo is always pretty loud so I never notice anything.

Thanks for the advice. To be honest, I usually have the stereo up so loud I don't notice it much myself. But the fact that I know it's there will probably make me try and fix it before long:-)

Also, during nice weather, the windows are down & sunroof full open thus if I had any rattles I'd NEVER hear them Plus the low mileage on mine hasn't seen the abuse & drive time as most others Hopefully, in your case with it being a fleet rental vehicle, all the previous drivers didn't beat it up too bad Also you should have gotten it for a pretty good price. Enjoy the ride & POST PICS !!!!!!!!!!

I have the same rattle in the driver side dash area. I usualy have the radio on too, but would still like to fix it. sounds like its common enough that we're all probably dealing with the same part rattling. If someone figures it out, it'd be crazy cool if you share the fix.

Well, I fixed it but I don't know how:-) If you take the glove box out (just as you would to change the cabin air filter) you can actually reach your hand up to the underside of the dash, the back of the radio, the defrost duct, ect... I just reached around wiggling parts and in general poking around and now it no longer makes the noise! My best guess is that it was a couple of peices of plastic rubbing together but I really don't know for sure. I am actually surprised how much of the underside of the dash you can get to! Glad I didn't have to take the dash apart as I am sure that would have just lead to more rattles. I have my fingures crossed but this is now the most rattle free car I have ever had:-)
