lights gone dark. Possible electrical issue?

Post by ron_estacio »

Both headlights didn't turn on last night on my vibe. High-beams and low still work (these are separate bulbs, correct?)... a friend suggested I check the fuses since it's unlikely both headlights would fail simultaneously; but I could not locate the fuse box easily on my own in the middle of the night... I'll be checking the manual and this board for possible solutions and chronicling my adventures here. I also need to look into fixing the bulbs for the gear shift & temperature knob...Any suggestions would be welcome.

Can you better describe the problem? On your 2005 Vibe, the headlight bulbs are a combination high and low beam, not separate, but since both high and low apperntly work, then the bulbs and the headlight fuses are probably ok.

From what I can tell, there are three headlight settings:Regular/daylight: activate by turning the tip of the left stick thing on the steering column - Not WorkingHigh Beam: activated by pressing the stick-thing forward - OKLow-Whatever: activated by rotating the ring on the stick-thing - OKFiddled with the fuses, perhttp://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=39947http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=39989still no good. Going to go fork over the $$$ for some new bulbs... Let me know if you think I missed something.

Could be bulbs, I'd start there.Could be the switch.Rotate thingy is fog lights.Realize that both bulbs were put in on the same day. Their life span will be very similar. If one burned out and you didn't notice it the 2nd could have burned out a day or two later which you would now notice. When you put in the new bulbs DO NOT TOUCH THEM with your fingers. Wear clean cotton gloves or just be real careful. Skin oils on the bulbs greatly reduces their life.Dave

sounds like the low beam filament is gone in both headlights. Sounds unlikely, but it's happened to me twice. I think at least once it was that one went before the other, but I didn't notice until they were both out.Let us know if new bulbs fix the problem

New bulbs worked. I've swapped out the passenger side in the past, so it went fairly quickly. I say fairly because the driver's side headlight was a bit of a hassle, but it's done.

I prolly got 10 bulbs under warranty.. lol.
