Installing Speakers question

Post by shaeet »

I popped off my door panel to install my front components & noticed the stock speakers are enclosed in a plastic housing that is riveted to the door.I had the same exact setup on my Celica & drilled out the rivets, cut out the stock speakers & screwed in aftermarket speakers into the black plastic piece. It was a pain but I was able to mount some pretty deep speakers in there without an issue. The components I have for the vibe are Alpine type-s, not overly deep. How did you guys go about mounting your Front & Rear speakers? And where is the stock tweeter location? I was going to mount them in the triangle mirror trim piece b/c i don't want to drill up my door panel.thx

If you have the Moon and Tunes then the stock tweeters are exactly where you want to mount them - in the sail panel. If you don't then you can still mount them there but it'll be more work.

Um...thx but that thread outlines a crazy custom system where he cut the door panels up and mounted on the outside of em.I'm just wondering how people replaced the OEM speakers with aftermarket in the same oem location. I assume drill out the rivets, drill holes and screw them in? No special mounting kits exist or anything? I'm just worried about the clearance with the windows and all.

I'd recommend looking on Crutchfield for speakers. If any mounting adapters are required they include them for free.

That and they don't sell crap.As far as I know there is no great trick to installing speakers in the Vibe. If you want the tweeters in the sail panel just find panel covers from one that had the M&T option.

Dayton RS 180-4 on an adapter I made from a cheap plastic cutting board Sealing up the big holes in the doors will give you better midbass.

I like your spacers Papacueball!!!I made MDF spacers but I have some cutting boards that I will be making new brackets out of.The reason crutchfield has to have higher pricing is you keep their authorized status, to stay an authorized retailer the seller can not advertise under the lowest advertised price set by the manufacture.
Vibe is gone and will be missed as I've gone country style

Thanks, man. We have crazy humidity and plenty of rain here in Louisiana, so I was kind of leery of using MDF in the doors. I know some people coat their MDF spacers with undercoat, fiberglass resin, or whatever, but I figured it's better to be safe than sorry.

When I installed my Alpine Type-S 2-way speakers (non component type) I used the mounting plate that came with the speakers. They don't completely seal the holes, but they are sturdy & hold the speakers well. A little bit of silicone would seal up the small gap between the door & bracket
