Hi all, just picked up an '04 Vibe that has a couple of issues. First, it needs a new front motor mount (bracket may be bent but I need a photo of a good one to be sure). Has anyone ever replaced theirs themselves and is it very hard? I'll attach a photo as soon as I get around to it and you can tell me if I need to replave the bracket as well.Second, the auto tranny clicks when put in reverse, though I read on the allworldauto.com site of someone else with the same complaint. Anyone else have that problem? I did a search here and only found 2 similar posts but nothing definitive. Thanks
I don't recall hearing of this being a typical problem with these cars. I have an '03 GT (6 speed manual transmission) and it makes a whirring noise when I'm in reverse that gets louder the faster I back up but this is normal for a manual transmission. Replacing the motor mounts is usually a fairly simple operation provided that you can easily access the bolt that holds it in place. You have to support the engine from below with a jack so you can remove and replace the mount but thats about as techical as replacing a motor mount gets.
