Custom DIN sized switch panel to be mounted in stereo pocket

Post by jscherf92 »

What do you guys think of this? Its basically a covered kill switch, streetglow sound module, 6 individual mini toggle switches for various lighting circuits, and a digital voltmeter to monitor the battery and add some technical appearance. Its still just a design but i plan to make it out of smoked plexiglas and mount it below my head unit.http://i42.tinypic.com/dh7qtk.jpgThe main killswitch is a SPST hooked up to constant 12v from a fuse protected connection, that will run to the streetglow module as well as the individual SPDT switches that will be used to turn the light circuits to constant on, or controlled by the streetglow controller. (Up is constant, Down is flashing) The Voltmeter will be connected after the kill switch but before the other switches for the closest connection to the battery. Please feel free to leave feedback, ask questions, and pose potential problems, this is the third revision of a centrally located switch control panel and id like to get the design close to perfect before actually building it. I know that every project has its speed bumps, but this one is a pretty major project so im eliminating as many as possible.

Btw the picture was made using a combination of Revit Architecture and MS Paint because my photoshop is acting up again. So sorry for the bad quality, consider it a rough napkin sketch.

That sounds like a pretty awesome project!!! Maybe you could incorporated LEDs into your design too. I haven't dealt with th RGB LEDs yet, but since you have a 3 way switch you could try and get each position as a designated color. Or since you are using smoked plexiglass, maybe use some for backlighting. Good concept, can't wait to see the finished product!!

I'm not a fan of the chrome toggle switches, they don't match anything in the stock Vibe, but I don't know what your headunit looks like. Only recommendation I'd offer is to try to use components that match the headunit as much as possible, to make it look like it belongs there.

Thanks Wolfman213, im considering some red backlighting (my whole vibe is black with red interior and lighting) and then you could kind of see some of the wires and stuff behind the plexi. I think it should be pretty cool, ill post pics when i start itand joatmon, im getting the Sony CDX-gt930 and its got some chrome accents, and on the sides of the hvac panel are mirror chrome peices, also im getting grafxwerks chrome strips for the rounded door accents under the lock/mirror assembly. The sony also has red button lighting so it will match the lights and my gauges and the rest of the interior. I see what youre sayin about matching but i could always look into black toggle switches.
