One year as a Vibe owner

Post by Bastranz »

It's hard to believe it's been only a year! I'm pretty excited because yesterday was my one year anniversary of not only being a Vibe owner, but a car owner as well!I still remember doing some serious searching, mainly online, for a car that I would be happy with for years to come. I spend a lot of time on edmunds.com, carreview.com (or whatever the site is), and more!Through searching a dealer site, I discovered the Pontiac Vibe. I never heard of this car at all, but I loved the name. Once I saw the pictures, I fell in love with the styling. After looking at reviews, about 95% of Vibe owners LOVED their Vibe. The fact that it was a "Toyota" with Pontiac branding (I always was partial to the styling of Pontiacs, especially the interior) sealed the deal. Plus, it was cool that it was made in the US.The test drive was cool, too. I found my Vibe at a local dealership, and once the seat was adjusted, it felt great. However, the feeling wouldn't compare to putting my hand on the shifter to shift into gear. That shifter conformed to my hand better than ANY car I ever drove. After testing the car on my test drive, I knew it was for me.Now, a year and almost 26,000 miles later, the car still runs well with no major problems. I just had to change a headlight bulb (incredibly easy to do), replace my windshield when some rock slammed into it on the highway (but I was able to upgrade to one with the blue band across the top), and fix a leaky tire valve. No electrical/engine/transmission problems at all. Here's to more years with my Vibe! I'm so happy that it has been working so well for me. I'm just sorry to see that they are no longer being made. A couple of pics of my Vibe...nothing special added to it at this time, though.

My "Vibe" ownership (2003, 2009) totals 7 years 3 months but only about a total of 38,000 miles. My total cost of ownership has been extremely low. Having a commute to work of zero helps a lot, as did the bargain prices at which both were bought.. The GM Master Card was a real money saver on both. Sometimes I think I was a factor in putting GM into bankruptcy. Oh well, sometimes you get the bear! Helps balance out the times when the bear gets you.

Congrats! glad you are happy with your Vibe. Great MPG with Toyotas reliability makes it great everyday car. Gets the job done. Im going on 3 years of ownership here. I bought it used @ 38K and put on 55,000 miles so far. The only problems I have had was a bad fan relay & replaced the starter 2 months ago. 240.00 worth of repairs in 3 years is pretty damn good. Other Vibe owners havent had to do anything LOL.

Thanks everyone! The MPG and reliability were primary selling points for me. I have a relatively long commute, and do a lot of driving for work. Plus, I don't have or want to put a lot of money into fixing problems. That was one of my fears in getting a car, especially a used one.Additionally, the Vibe seems to have done the impossible of offering plenty of room for tall folk like me, having plenty of cargo space, all while being small enough to fit into smaller parking spaces. (Oh my, I sound like an ad!)It's astounding that the Vibe is such a secret gem. It's fun to drive, reliable, etc...and I don't think that many people know about it. I remember when I first saw an advertisement for the Matrix when it was brand new to the market. The advertisement made the car look incredibly cool and unique. Little did I know that several years later, I'd end up buying a better looking "Matrix" of my own! I just want to add that this site is fantastic. I've learned so much so far about the Vibe and cars in general, especially doing easy maintenance myself. I look forward to more years with my Vibe and as a Genvibe member!
