How often do car manufacturers offer incentives for their cars?

Post by ktyure »

My sister is considering purchasing a Hyundai Genesis Coupe and when she was looking for incentives for the car, she saw that hyundai is offering 2.9% for 60 mos, 3.9% for 72 mos but it ends on 3/31/2010. I was wondering if these types of deals happen often or if she needs to hurry up and jump on this deal? Thanks

There'll be a similar deal next month but the best deals come at the end of model years. When the dealers start getting lots of 2011 vehicles, look for deals on the 2010's. Gotta love clearout/closeout sales!!!

If your sister is financing a car, typically the overall cost of ownership will be the same, only the buyers perception to the "deal" will change. The only exception to this rule is when a buyer pays cash. For example, this month the may offer 2.9% for 60 months, next month they may offer $1500 in rebates and 5.9% for 60 months and then at the end of the model year they may offer a $2500 rebate OR 1.9% financing for 48 months and then jacking up the interest rate for 60 month and more. In the end, the total price of the vehicle ends up being close to the same for all the above deals. In otherwords, they are making up the discounts on the "Deal" and rebates in the F&I office. With this particular promo that ends on the 31st, you will either 1) see and extention, or 2) see a April 15th Tax Day Sale that will start around April 5. So don't let her get caught up in the dealer hype.

Hyundai generally has some sort of incentive on most models. It's usually more of a question of how good of an incentive it is rather than will there even be one. Next month could be better or worse. At any rate, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a massive GM-style several thousand off rebate or a zero APR, they usually don't do it.They often do have pretty decent rebates and such on their new stock of last year's models but that doesn't apply here. It would be nice if they also had a cash back deal on this thing, but nope... Being a Genesis it may be a situation where you take what you can get. It's a relatively low volume car and no question the sportiest thing they've ever built so they probably aren't too concerned with incentives on those.

In other words, they are making up the discounts on the "Deal" and rebates in the F&I office. With this in mind, the number to worry about is the price you agree to pay for the car! Not the financing %. The Coupe starts at $22k, but I'm sure she wants a bell or whistle here and there. Who would buy a car without at least one?! The Genesis is a lower volume car, which the dealer will try and work as an angle ("Well, I had three other people looking at this one today, so I can't budge on the sticker."). If she is serious about buying one, get a good price in writing first. Like JetBlack said, the cost to finance, when factoring in all of these different deals throughout the year, will be about the same. It comes down to the price she gets before signing on the dotted line. Good luck! The guy I bought my rims/snows from sold his Scion tC, and bought the bright red Genesis Coupe. Nice-looking car, for sure.

Kinda like the folks I know who actively pursue finding base Hyundai Accents that have no power anything, no A/C and not even a radio. It's surprising someone still markets a car that bare bones but people do buy 'em.
