Disable Daytime running lights. Did "search" not satisfactory results. Help

Post by MSAGRO »

I would like to disable my DRL, I have installed PIAA headlights, and the life of them are not so great, but they have a wonderful brightness to them.I don't want them on all the time.I had a 2004 Corolla that I disabled the DRLIf I remember correctly, it's a Red and White wire behind the gauge cluster just above the base of the dash. This photo is off a 2005 Corolla. I believe the junction box is the same on our Vibes. I need to verify tho:Any old posts with photos would be appreciated before I start snipping.Msagro

Same wire.. snip away as long as your new ride isn't a 2009.

It's a 2004 Vibe.Just to be sure, the Vibe's junction box is the same as the photo above? Same configuration, unit?

I don't like the auto headlights more than I mind the DRL's. why on earth would you want headlights on all the time? i'm going to do this mod today I think in my 06 POS.

A much simpler method is to carefully pry out the sensor from the top of the dash and unplug the connector form the sensor. I tied a short wire tether to the harness and sensor to keep the connector from disappearing into the abyss so I could easily put it all back in the future. I posted this solution some time ago, but can't find it today.

i did this actually before trying anything else. the drl does go off but I want my auto headlights to not come on either, which they did when I just unplugged the sensor.thanks for everyone's help though on this. I hate when auto makers try to take control of what you buy out of your hands. I understand that the general populace wants things as simple as possible but that's not for me.

OK, so now I'm really confused?? IF you unplug the dashboard sensor you disable the DRLs but NOT the auto headlight activation? How does THAT make any sense??? How does the sensor 'sense' the darkness/light change?

Yes Mado, tight fit. I'm over 6 feet tall. Put the driver seat all the way back, and wedge your back against the brake pedal.. and for the love of all thats Holy, snip the correct wire!

Did it yesterday. Blew my mind how people get up to that wire. It is almost impossible to get that. I used a mirror to find the right wire. Boy! But its pretty cool, this was my first car so I didn't really have a car that I could turn off the lights.

I did mine yesterday, I dropped and disconnected the relay box. Verified the correct pin # and snip. I am so happy. I have too situations where I have to wait with engine running and have the LIGHTS on! But not now. I got my info off here too. Thanks to the poster(s) jim

Maybe you got the wrong wire. At first I cut the yellow wire, and that didn't even work, so I cut a red one with a white stripe on it, I think next to the yellow one. If you want, I can try to get a picture of what I have. I also put a switch in for my DRLs, so one a cloudy day like it was today, I could have them on, so I'm extra visible!

it was the right wire, i fixed the wire and did the drl delete by digging into the lighting control box, then i just unhooked the connetor to the autolight sensor, bc i never liked the autolights or the drl's. i got things straightened out, so im good
