CHEAPEST intake available??

Post by A Psycho Martyr »

I saw an Import Tuner article showin how instead of a CAI or SRI, they just used a cone filter on stock intake. Is there a way to do this with the Vibe? Or should I just get a SRI?

i did this years ago.got a piece of pipe that fit on the inside of the stock intake hose and mounted a cone filter on the other end. didn't do a dame thing though other than the extra noise.

May sound weird...but that's EXACTLY what I want. The noise. So pvc? And would you remember the size? I mean I could measure i suppose, but ya know...thought I'd ask.

Yes, pvc would be the quickest/cheapest route..I've heard that it doesn't sound as good as a metal pipe. You can also open up the exhaust via a header, high flow cats, and a free flowing exhaust all will contribute to a better sound. Just be careful when opening up the exhaust because to little back pressure will cause a loss in power.

I read the same article in import tuner a couple of months ago..and it makes sense the way that they explained it..unfortunately every car is different and jp magazine did the same test a few months ago and got best results using the cold air intake over the stock tube with aftermarket filter attached..I'm just going to upgrade the filter (leaving the stock air box) and a 2.5" exhaust, after this is done I will get a dyno test and post the results.

Get an ebay SRI. It's 24$ plus 15$ shipping that's 40 dollars. To do a custom intake your going to hack up your old intake system making it irreversable and a cone filter at a parts store will cost you at minimum 20$ and a pvc pipe 8$ so you'll save maybe 10$ and won't be as nice looking or as well functioning as a ebay SRI knock off of a 200$ engineered intake.

Im running a K&N typhoon short tube and love it, i also built my own ram air system that works real well. I ducted it from the lower grille area up under the battery and to the open end of the filter great set up and not even noticable.

I decided to duct down to the lower fairing and just throw in a k&n panel filter replacement..using 2" black cpvc to a 10X3" box on the drivers side lower grill...
