I have seen a diagram on here about splicing wires and using a converter to wire for towing. And i found a wiring kit on etrailer part number 118460 that you just connect the current plugs and run some wire to the battery. What's the pros and cons of each method. I have never seen anything that you had to run to the battery before kinda curious about that too. Thanks in advance. http://www.etrailer.com/pc-VWH...01592

Splicing 4 wires to run your trailer lights isn't hard. I've never seen the one that runs to the battery. When I bought the trailer hitch for the Sunfire I used to have, the universal wiring kit cost $5.99 from Princess auto. Similar to this but longer.I just cut the correct end off and spliced the proper wires. Took 10 minutes.

I've wired many vehicles for towing. For my 2009 Vibe I used the plug in relay type. It was the first time I used a relay on a four wheeled vehicle although I did use a relay setup when wiring my motorcycle for towing.The reason for running a power line from the battery is because the original signal wires are not of sufficient gauge to give good power to the trailer. The kit only takes the signal from the original harness and the power is sent to the trailer through the relay. That way no additional load is on the original harness. They use really tiny wires nowadays and the relay needs to be used.You can use the splice in kind or the plug in kind, but you must use the relay. The plug in kind is a bit simpler and might be more reliable depending on your wiring skills and knowledge.

Hey man thanks for the help. There is an installation video on the etrailer website. My wriring skills are ok but i think i'll go with the plug in kind and just run the wire to the battery. The video made it look pretty easy. Of cousre they had a nice lift so they could get under the car nice and easy. Yeah i had never seen anything run to the battery so that threw me off. Thanks again.
I, first tried to splice the wires on my 2010 , & had some problems, with the " running lights " not working. I was told by a trailer building shop that the factory " plug-in" type kit, was the way to go. Wiring straight to the battery would prevent possible onboard computer problems. I got that kit, about $50 , online, installed, & it is nice & looks great.

My hitch and wiring kit came in today. It only took like two or three days from the time I ordered it until the time I got it. I haven't installed it yet hopefully I will get a chance this weekend or at least by the first of the week. I'll post pics when I get it done.P.S.
