rev limiter ?

Post by mrgrn »

I have a ? about the Gt and the limiter. At around 6000k rpm's it makes this aweosme howl(which i like) and i am wondering whether that is the limiter? Also if it is, will it hurt the engine if i go past it?Thanks in advance Mark

Sounds to me like you're hitting "lift". Something to the effect that at that RPM, the higher valve lift kicks in and that's when you hit the real power advantage over the the non-GT engine. I won't try to explain it but others can and have. Lots of threads here about lift and the GT (2ZZ) engine. I don't have a GT, but those that do seem to think that 6000 - redline is the most fun rpm range. Go for it, enjoy, that's why the GT is special. The rev limiter shouldn't kick in till you redline, which on a GT should be a lot higher than 6k

yeah above 6k your hitting lift, that is the fun part of the GT, the fuel cut-off/rev limiter is set around 8400rpm, so anywhere between 6 and 8200 is okay, i only go up to the limiter if im at the track.yogi

go head and take it up to 8400 when it feels like somebody cut off the gas... thats the revlimiter!!!! it wont harm your engine as long as your not redlineing it every shift every day.
look my sniggies, i had a strizz-oke in my brizz-ain okay, you know what im saying. so i cant move all good. but thanks for mentioning that .thank you very much.athf4evr. click here! you know you want to!!!

Thanks guys, the LIFT is way cool for such a tiny car. I have had 3 mustangs in the late eighties, and they had just shear balls. This little car can move right along. My motorcycle has a lift at like 8k rpms and that is a hoot as well.

Kind of scary you don't know anything about the 2ZZ motor. That is the whole point of the Vibe GT. Have you ever heard of Honda VTEC? It's a second set of cam lobes basically that comes on line at a pre-set rpm (6000rpm) for our Vibe GT. The Matrix XRS and Celica GT-S has the same 2ZZ motor. This 2ZZ motor doesn't really makes it's power until 6000 rpm to it's 8350rpm rev limiter. Just make sure your motor is warm (drive around at least for a few minutes) before trying to hit the high rpms! Change your oil regularly and your motor should be good for a long time!!
