hi,I have an 09 vibe, 37,000km on it now. I noticed on the hatch when you open it on the inside bottom aprox 2" painted surface (not the part with the little plastic hand hole) the thin side there are a few weld spots which are turning rusty. I checked out a friends matrix and the spots are rusty on it aswell.Anyone else notice this rusting? I was going to bring it up at the dealer would warranty fix it?
That's just light surface rust and for now it's just ugly... but later will grow and eat out the hatch!!! Get out a little rust remover and paint and clean her up!
I think I'd make the dealer take care of that. What's the rust-through warranty on the Vibe?

I just looked through my warranty into tonight. There's 3 year/60,000km for corrosion - or 5 yr/160,000 for perforation. This certainly qualifies as corrosion - so I would have the dealer look after this one.Is it typically a pretty damp environment out there? It is much of the time around here - and we get plenty of road salt in the winter. I've found that a combination of annual oil sprays (such as Krown or Rust Check) and regular waxing makes a big difference on cars around here. Although it's certainly not "required" for the rust warranty - I plan on keeping it long after that's expired. The oil helps keep stuff like lock mechanisms and windows operating nicely for the long haul too...I'm not a big fan of the thicker undercoating type of material that some places use. I've seen it shrink and peel in just a few years - and doesn't penetrate into all the crevices where moisture likes to hide. The oil may be a little messier - but I've seen that it works. For what it's worth - my brother's '09 purchased in May 2008, and mine purchased March '09 - both white - have no visible rust anywhere to date. I've sprayed them both myself with Krown's product. It's not particularly cheap - but it works.John
thanks for the input everyone.I took the vibe to the bodyshop that does the warranty work (the dealer doesn't do it) the guy took some pics sent off a work order to the dealer. After talking to him found out we had some of the same relitives getting it fixed under warranty tomorow morning.
