Double DIN Dash Kit That Works?

Post by boulderer »

This is my first post, so I'd like to say hello and thank you to so many of you who have helped build a great online resource which has come in very handy.I just installed a Pioneer FH-P8000BT double din head unit in my '05 Pontiac Vibe. My vibe did not have nav or M&T. The problem I've come up against is the apparent lack of a double din dash kit locally. I'm considering ordering Scosche's GM1590AB. It looks like it should work, but after already trying 2 dash kits locally I want to be sure before I buy. What do the gurus here think? What double din dash kits have people used successfully? Has anyone had much luck using the factory kit? when I tried to use the factory side panels they didn't line up well.

What problems are you having? Are you just not able to find one period? The Double Din I installed is to small to fit my radio so the radio is recessed behind the panel. I thought I was doing something wrong so I decided to have it done professionally. They ended up installing the same way I did it. If this happens to be the case Ill provide a pic of how it looks now. Oh and by the way I used the metra one that is for the matrix/vibe.

The only kits I found required the use of the factory plates that bolt into the dash. They didn't work because the screw patterns didn't match up with my stereo. I'm hopping to find a kit that doesn't require using the factory plates.

The metra kit has its own plates that mount the radio to the interior of your dash

Yes that would be gr8 if you could take some pics. I don't like how mine looks and I may need to make some changes to the dash kit.
