Radio text

Post by srlebonv »

I just installed http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1...=5684 and its a major improvement over the stock, I have a question though:The jvc is HD ready and supports scroll texting, but it doesnt show the names of the songs that come on the RADIO, like th old factory unit did. When I installed the new radio I didnt mess with the wires on the second smaller plug. What I mean is, there were two plugs that went into the back of the radio, one larg(the main plug) and one smaller one, was I suppose to do something with that? Is there a way to get me song text on radio back ?Thanks for any and all advice/

For the factory radios, the text that can be displayed is generated at the radio station and comes over as part of the radio signal, there are no external radio connections to allow or interfere with that, other than the antenna. I don't know about your replacement radio though. It says it's HD ready, does that mean it needs an external thing in order to handle HD? Is there some configuration option to allow or prevent text scrolling?

I think its called, radio data system (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radio_Data_System) I think there is a data wire involved that I havent connected. As I said , there were two plugs, The wiring kit I purchased only plugged into the big one, the smaller plug remains unused, did anyone use that for anything. are those amp wires? RDS wire? does anyone know ?

Looking at the spcs tab for the radio you boughthttp://www.crutchfield.com/p_1...specsthe tuner section says Quote »TunerTuner TypeHS-IViFM Sensitivity9.3 dBfFM Presets18AM Presets6European TuningYesSeek/ScanSeekRadio Data SystemNoand as I said, in the factory radio, the RDS function is part of the radio, there is no external RDS device feeding RDS data into the radio, the radio it self pulls the data out of the signal it receives from the radio station, there are no external connections required to get RDS with the factory radio, and there is no external RDS device that comes standard in Vibes that you can use to hoolk up to the one you bought in order to make the new one do RDS.
