And it took up less room too. They are nothing but a DUB-mobile in the real world.

I ended up with a Vibe when both my wife and I lost our jobs here in Michigan due to the economy. We had leased a Hummer H3 and purchased the Vibe outright in July because it offered some of the interior space that the H3 has at 1/2 the price. I loved that H3. I took it off road and drove it like it was meant to be driven. It could do things off road, stock, that Jeep owners would have to pay $1000's more in modified parts to do. The sad thing is, it became an icon for most to hate, but what's even more sad is how happy people are that it's gone even though it effects 1000's of people. From the 10-15 people employed at every Hummer dealership, to 1200 or more people at each of the assembly plants, to the 1000's of people who worked for the suppliers, to the bar and restaurant owners who have their place of business by these factories, these people just lost their income. To say "Good riddance" is in poor taste and terrible thing to wish upon our fellow countrymen.

Thank you for saying it so nice. I have been trying to correctly write a similar statement. The Shrevport plant that builds the Canyon/Colorado/H3 was intended to become a Hummer only plant. GM may now close this down. Many could argue that there are many other vehicles that are "status" vehicles, and not justified.

I wasn't cheering on the demise of the American worker, please don't read that into my statement. It is undeniable that these were very polarizing vehicles... For many, Hummer was a prime example of all was wrong with the industry and society -- bloat, arrogance, excess, and contempt for the environment. For others, it was a status symbol - who can have the most toys, the most chrome, or the biggest wheels (with tires that are ill suited for even gravel roads, forget about any off road capability that thing is supposed to have.) And a tiny portion of owners who actually used them for their originally intended purpose. I do feel bad for the workers that are going to be affected. Sadly it's all been done before and on a greater scale. It seems to me like getting rid of brands which sold in higher volume, had more factories and dealers involved would have a greater impact than losing this tiny niche brand with a small dealer body. Where was the outrage then?

That $1,000's extra is exagerrated as you are implying the cost to put the same parts in a Jeep that may be standard in the H3. You don't necessarily need all those to go off roading. The H3 is based on the GMT355 that underpins the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon compact pickup trucks. So an SUV based on a small pickup is not an all dominating figure. Personally I'd take a Jeep Liberty over this any day.

It is important to have all of the facts. Yes the H3 is loosely based on the Colorado/Canyon in that it shares the same engine and assembly line, from there it is quit different. It has its own specific driveline, the wheel base is H3 specific as is the suspension and gearing. My statement about the Jeep is that an H3 stock and out of the box is more capable than a stock Jeep. In fact, aside from the Wrangler, most Jeeps built today don't even have tow hooks or a low gear transfer case. Here is a video of my H3, and others that were completely stock. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJ_wc6HE640

Jeep Rubicon, Toyota FJ Cruiser, Nissan X-Terra are the best value stock on the market right now.

I can agree with the Rubicon and the FJ. It's funny, the FJ to me is really not valued enough by the critics or auto mags. But it had a niche and was a pretty good off roader out of the box like the Rubicon. The X-Terra? I've never really been into them, enlighten me some more with the wisdom.
