Just got a '03 Vibe....problem??

Post by CaliManDan »

My girlfriend just purchased a 2003 Pontiac Vibe (base model). We were looking at pictures online and noticed that the engine usually has a cover on it that says "VVT-i" right in the middle of the engine. My girlfriend's car is missing this cover which is exposing what is usually under it which is 4 electrical looking plugs? (I'm not sure what to call them). My question is: is this bad for the car or dangerous in anyway to drive the car around with no cover over the top part of the engine? I've attached a picture at the bottom of this post to show the "cover" I am talking about.

I've attached a picture to show my girlfriend's engine to show you that the cover is missing and what it looks like under. What are those 4 things being exposed?

You'll be fine. Those things with the wires are the coils for the spark plugs. The spark plugs themselves are under them.Go to your local auto wrecker/boneyard and see if you can find one. Welcome to GenVibe!!!

welcome to genvibewe were talking about the engine cover recently, seemed to agree that it has three purposes- looks nice- provides some amount of engine noise quieting- keeps some amount of dirt and spray off those plug coils (on these cars, each spark plug gets it's own mini-coil, no spark plug wires) and out of the plug wells.it's not a serious must have, but at some point you ought to look for one when convenient and when you find one for a reasonable price.I always liked the Frosty (white) vibesQuote, originally posted by CaliManDan »I've attached a picture to show my girlfriend's engine to show you that the cover is missing and what it looks like under. On a different forum, we'd have all kinds of fun with that sentence

Unintended engine cover disapearance. There might be a recall on that. Have you reported it?
