http://www.wtnh.com/dpp/news/n...rash-19yr old and his 15yr old sister dead around the corner from my house. The road they were on is fairly straight, then turns to the beach. The area they crashed into is an upslope along the water (small brush area then rock wall to water). Type in 604 Gulf Street Milford CT in Google Maps and streetview the road keeping the water on your right. You can see the pole he hit with the signage. It squirrels a bit right there before you go around a big slanted curve uphill that people fly around all the time. This road is 25mph, you can clearly tell by the car he was easily doing at least double that. Kids constantly fly by the beach and rev it up to be heard in this part. Cops sit on the road and near the beach but it's still not enough apparently.
Yeah definitely speed related. I wouldn't be surprised if they put some more lighted signage there or maybe widen the road. The road narrows right at this point so if you come around the bend (which appears like an easy bend but it kinks slightly after just passing the beach), and you vere into the other lane. All it takes is another oncoming car or some sand and you can overcompensate and careen into the pole. The pole actually prevented them from going into the water. At the apparent speed based on the LONG tire tracks they would have flown through the barrier and catapulted over the rocks into the water.I can tell you they were going very very fast because I drove by last night, candles were there with flowers and a cross and the skid marks come from the opposing lane a good 50ft. before the pole. When you come from the center of town towards the beach, once over the bridge, the road is long and straight and then the slight bend and kink before going uphill and around the curve. Very easy to get even a small car with little hp up to high speeds.
