Intermittent Blower

Post by chewbacca0901 »

I have a 2003 Vibe with nearly 170K on it. My blower was working intermittently, so I changed the resistor. That didn't fix it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, and sometimes when it's working, it slows down or goes off when I make a left turn. No NASCAR for me! I work for an OEM, and one of the engineers said it sounds like a loose connection, and to see if the wiring harness goes over the steering column. I haven't had a chance to check that, but was wondering if anyone else experienced the same issue?

welcome to genvibeseems like in the past, intermittent blower has been a sign of a failing blower motor, the loose connection could be the brushes internal to the motor. Never had the problem in mine, but there have been a number of failed motors. Can't rememebr if anyone had a intermittent blower because of a loose connection. Plenty of resistor failures too, but those usually manifest themselves as fan runs on high only. http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=36099 has steps to replace the blower, if it comes to that. There are some other threads here somewhere about the brushes in the motor, but a quick search didn't turn them up for me.

Thanks for the info! If I can't find a loose connection, then I will try changing the motor.

I changed my resistor recently as it stopped working at position " 1 " and I hate the noise on 2 or higher. $180 quite stiff. I believe your problem is the wiring
