DC ERROR

Post by shortbuskristn »

Hey anyone out there who is really good with fixing audio problems.I got a new Alpine headunit for my vibe and replaced the front 2 speakers as well. This morning I started my car and my new Alpine HU said this DC ERROR. I know what it means but I cant fix it. No audio wires are bare and none are rubbing against metal. I took it to best buy and he fixed it until about 8 hours after I left there it happened again. We changed the way the wires were thinking they were getting pinched but i guess not.Anyone else experience this ever? What advice can u give me?

The "DC ERROR" message is displayed whenever a speaker wire is shorting to ground. Most often it's right behind the dash, especially if the unit was spliced in without using an aftermarket wiring harness. But sometimes, it's one of the wires at the speaker locations. Find and correct the short. Remove the faceplate by pressing the button at the lower left and slide the faceplace out to the left. Then use a ballpoint pen or similar pointed object to momentarily press the "reset" button. Reinstall the faceplate and you're ready to go.If none of the speaker wires are shorting to ground, most likely the unit itself is defective and will require professional service or replacement.

Best thing that can be done, is to pull the HU and use an ohm meter on each speaker output on the harness... The one that shows a short is the corner you need to address.. Could be a pinched wire, a bad connection or shorted speaker... possibly something in the door jam got pinched...

Thanks for their help. I have been balancing and fading to different speakers to figure out where it is. It seems to only do it when its on all 4 speakers and blanks out when on the front speakers but doesnt do the full dc error. I was wondering if yall could tell me exactly how to pull the hu out, its a cda 105 if that matters. i dont wanna just go into it blindly messing it up even more. Im thinking its gotta be the wire going to the actual head unit.
