Has anyone painted stock alloys?

Post by jscherf92 »

Im nowhere near a point where i can afford aftermarket rims so I wanted to look into painting my stock alloys. Ive got the 5 spoke style with the little triangles near the lip.If anyone has painted their wheels before; is there a certain kind of paint or just alot of prep work and primer? None of the resources ive found has very specific information.Id like to go with a dark gray/gunmetal look that isn't quite black.

I'd like to do something like this as well. Anyone have some DIY tips for the poor folk among us?

glad to see im not alone, from what ive read, you can use a light fine grit sandpaper to rough up the wheel, then a decent quality spray primer and something like krylon and a good chip resistant clear coat. i just want more details if theyre out there.

I will most likely be doing this and painting them to match the body color. These will be my winter wheels, so I wont be spending too much time on them. I wont do them til the summer sometime though.

keithvibe has done this and there are a couple others as well. He'll probably chime in once he sees this thread. Check out his garage and you'll be able to see i think it's on like page 3 or 4
