Hey Pontiac! Where's OUR MP3 player?

Post by Jethro »

Saw a new 2004 Aztek over the past weekend with its new MP3 capable CD player and I'm wondering why it's not available in the Vibe.Quote from http://media.gm.com/division/2004_prodi ... index.html : "This year, Aztek owners will have the option of being able to play MP3-format audio in their vehicles, packing in up to two hours of music on one CD."What's new for Vibe for 2004:http://media.gm.com/division/2004_prodi ... htmlWhat's new for Aztek for 2004:http://media.gm.com/division/2004_prodi ... k/new.html

quote: "This year, Aztek owners will have the option of being able to play MP3-format audio in their vehicles, packing in up to two hours of music on one CD."My rough estimates are data for a music CD is about 10 MB per minute, and an MP3 file is about 1 MB per minute. Should be able to get 10- 12 hours of MP3 on a CD, can't understand why they'd say only "up to two hours"

Perhaps a typo? Maybe they meant to say twelve?

I don't know, the article had it spelled out "two" maybe the typo was in notes to whoever wrote it.If it only plays 2 hours of MP3, then that's no big improvement over basic Cd and maybe so weird that it's better to not have it there are 10 kinds of people in the worldthose that understand binary and those that don't

Maybe it's locked into only using a certain bitrate? Or worse..it uses ATRAC-3, Gah!Btw, Joatmon..it took me a second after glancing at your signature.. Very amusing.. :D

http://www.delphi.com/pdf/d/mp3.pdfBit rate is anywhere from 32 to 320.Available for Pontiac Aztek, Montana, Sunfire, and Grand Ams for 2004. Other GM lines should also have it.Vibe dosen't have the same type electrical system as mainstream GM cars, so it dosen't have all the same audio choices and features.

My Vibe's "moon & tunes" radio/CD sure appears to be the same unit used in the 2003 Azteks (lousy button layout and all!).

Look closely and you will see where the Vibe has the "RCL" button, GM vehicles with class 2 serial data electronics will have a "SCV" button. This is Speed Compensated Volume, the faster you drive the louder the radio gets. Vibe has no operative theft lock system, as it gets no messages from on board modules with VIN info. And the Nav system can not play DVD movies because there is no way to tell the system that the car is in park.

quote:This is Speed Compensated Volume, the faster you drive the louder the radio gets. Our Chevy Suburban has this. I am somewhat glad I don't have it in the Vibe ...I don't think i could afford the speeding tickets while listening to such songs as"Free Bird" - Lynyrd Skynyrd"James Bond Theme" - Moby"Living on a Prayer" - Bon JoviAnd other songs, but that's all I cam remember.Especially free Bird ... starting off so slow ... then music picks up pace, I always find myself speeding up ... now if I was speeding up and the music got louder ... 110 in a school zone?! Officer! I swear I didn't mean to!
