Almost got T-boned....

Post by MajorAD »

For months my 2010 2.4l has had this momentary hesitation when you step on the gas but only happens at a certain low speed,RPMS jump past 3k then bam you are outta there, its something my dealer said was"normal".Well today this "normal" almost got me killed. I was crossing a busy intersection with traffic up front when out of the blue some jerk runs a red light which I catch at the corner of my eye,at this point braking would have definitely been the end so I gunned it to get out of his way,you guess it..HESITATION.. or lag and then the rpm jump and lastly the neck snapping speed, the a$$hol thought I was playing chicken with this show,he didnt slow down at all and probably dusted off my rear bumper in his hasty getaway. So folks has anyone determined whats going on with this transmission or is this "normal"?

Yup, sounds like a typical automatic! Glad I bought the stick! Car's in the wrong gear and takes half a second to get where it should be! I hate red light runners...

I'm afraid it is normal Major. I have had the same experiences with my 09 vibe (1.8 auto) and my Malibu Maxx. I'm guessing all auto trannys have the "adaptive technology" which adjusts to a driver's style. I can't stand the idea of stupid computers meddling with the performance of the car. Those hesitations you experience are very typical when making turns and the tranny gets mired in third gear when it needs to find second gear. As a result of these fine "advancements" in technology, I know that if I did not live in this crowded part of the universe, I'd be driving a manual for life. Unfortunately, manuals are not an option when you are bogged down in traffic all the time.

It is due to transmission downshifting when coming to a stop, but also it seems like the does want to "lunge forward" when waiting at a stop sign or red light. This is why I keep my foot firmly on the brake. There is a TSB out there for correct some of the issue; may want to seek the dealer for the remedy
