I did not see this threat anywhere else. Does the current Corolla steering recall affect us? I figured the Corolla has electric steering just like the Vibe/Matrix. Any word yet?
I think we will have a recall concerning the power steering. I read a lot of complaints about it on NHTSA. There is one posted for the 2010 Vibe. I have had a few strange things with my steering. 2009 Vibe 2.4L auto. At two or three times, when slowing to a stop on a rough pavement surface, my steering wheel would feel like it disengaged from the wheels and suddenly turn to the right very freely. I would turn back to the left and then it becomes steerable again.
oh geez, GM and now Toyota are trying to kill me with steering issues. First with my Malibu Maxx, now this!!!! Unbelievable. I'm gonna start taking the bus!!
Ah technology... how did we live without you??? I'm waiting for someone at Toyota to say "This is how it is! Don't like it? Go buy a Chrysler... an we'll see you in a few months!"My steering wheel likes to turn to the right or left while stopping on ruts or unever pavement when I don't hold onto it with more then 1 finger. It works fine and there's nothing wrong with it. You just have to remember that You're the driver and will always have full control over the vehicle!!! Even if driving inconveniences your pursuit of communication!
I checked NHTSA's site for complaints on the Matrix for '09-'10 but didn't find any on the steering similar to the Corolla's. But if the hardware is the same, I see no reasons why the Matrix/Vibe would be immune from the problems. Probably the ratio of Corollas sold to Matrix / Vibe would translate into more complaints on the Corolla.Between GM and Toyota's inability to provide reliable electric power steering, I think I'll stick with old dinosaur hydraulic technology as long as I can find it.

The steer wheel feels so loose, that the tire (wheels) is pulling the car one way but you can NOT feel the resistance in the steering wheel. Does that make any sense?
