Vibe Tire wear!

Post by 2575 »

Has anyone else had a tire wear problem with their Vibe? Well I have! I have 14000 miles on my '03 Vibe and it has already gone threw a set of tires. The rear ones cupped so badly that I had to replace them, and the front ones just plain went bald. I have gone to three different dealers about this and traveled hundreds of miles to do so. At first I assumed that it was an alignment problem so I took it to an independent shop and they tested it and found that it wasn't out at all. So I told one dealer, and without even looking at the car He told me it was my falt for not rotating the tires. Yes, I didn't rotate the tires after 5000 miles like they tell you to, but I know form past experience that not rotating your tire will only cause the drive tires to wear out faster. So I called the customer service line and they set me up an appointment with a different dealer to check the alignment again! This dealer said that the car is out of alignment, but or warrenty is up on that, so it will cost me about $150 to get it done, but they can't get the shims to do it anyway. So I took it to a different independent shop to get it tested again and hopefully get it taken care of. But this time this different independent shop told me that it wasn't out of alignment either! Their opinion is that it is a design flaw that is causing the problems, and it can't be helped. So that's were I stand now. Any ideas? I can't buy new tires every 14000 miles and I don't really think that anyone else wants to! So keep an eye on your tire wear! Make sure to rotate every 5000 miles so that you can tell them that you jumped threw all the hoops. Sorry for all the misspellings!

well you do have a point my tires wore out fast, but i think is cause the conti's on the vibe suck. Rotating will slow it down though cause i changed two tires after 21,000 miles, the other two are bad but they can hold 3,000 more miles, I know it isnt right to change two at a time but am a college student Im broke what can i say.

I have 15000 miles and had my tires rotated twice and the wear is definitely excessive. I don't take turns real hard and don't do burnouts so that is not the cause. I have half tread left if I am lucky. Not real happy. I have the Goodyear RSA 16"

I went to rotate my tires at 5,000 miles and discovered that the front tires were worn to the tread bars and are now no good, so I didn't bother to rotate them. I just think that the Continental tires that came on the car suck. I could get them replaced under the pro-rated warranty on the tires, but I would end up having to pay part of the cost. I refuse to pay for tires that suck and I'd rather invest the money in a better set rather than wasting the money on more crappy tires.

I've got 14000km on my tires with no problems so far. Just had them rotated at my last oil change. Mine are the continentals.

I had the contis on my car and at 12k mi. and 1 rotation they have hardly worn at all. This is with hard driving also. I can't complain about tire ware, only the lack of performance of the tire. I have Bridgestone RE92 (17") on there now and have plenty of traction unlike before with the contis. These have a tread ware of 260 so it is a soft sticky tire.

Air pressure is a big factor. Tires with too much or too little air will wear quickly. I check mine every few weeks and goodyears are wearing good
