I got a 12" RE SX (2 ohm) that recently had its coils burn up. So now when its going, I just hear rattling and bass, which sounds like garbage and its really annoying. I can probably get it fixed for around 100. Is it worth it to get another one, or should I just get something else?I already have an amp (obviously) http://www.fusiononlinestore.c....aspxSo what subwoofer would go good with it if I choose to replace instead of repair?
Try http://www.ddaudio.com. After looking at them and [urlwww.audioque.com[/url] plus the input from audiovibe, i really liked that type of sub and have a DD Audio 1512 DVC getting delivered tomorrow.

Great drivers. Along with Fi, DC, and RE. Those are my 4 favorite drivers. I should hook a single dual 2 ohm to the 1000watts at 1 ohm. So I can get two 1500, or one 2500.. Hmm...
Thought you where 100% RF... lol... That amp does 750wrms @2ohm... keep that in mind.. And with your sub-par electrical system, it could be less.. I've NEVER smoked a coil on a speaker... That being said, you either pushed it too hard (volume), had the gain match off, too much boost (bass boost is a killer) or the enclosure was incorrect for the sub..

And it was the gain and the bassbooster... Where I got it done turned all the settings all the way up. Like, (removed)! They didn't like the fact that I didn't buy me equipment there. And the sub is rated at 1000w rms. So I think I didn't overpower it... Haha

HahaMost shops WON'T like that fact that you may have bought gear on Ebay, under-cutting them, then bringing it in for them to install.. Kinda like bringing your steak into the steakhouse and asking them to cook it... Personally I wouldn't eat the steak in that situation... lol.. Over-powering it, not likely, but with the gain and the bass boost all the way up, you definitely cooked it a bit.. Your 1000w rating means practically ZERO to the actual ability to deal with it's environment... That 1000w rating actually means that it has the ability to dissipate 1000w worth of heat energy (Watts being a heat measurement...lol)I've run subs rated for 125Wrms with 250wrms (double) without a single electrical issue... Now, I ripped one of the VC's from the cone on one of them, but that was also after 3yrs of SERIOUS abuse.. So you see, having a super high power handling on a sub means that you have to have the power to DRIVE that sub too... not just power it, but DRIVE it.. High power subs are also retardedly inefficient... Most of the input power turns to heat not movement... Anytime you see a "db" rating on a sub, it means 100x more than the power handling.. Ok, I know that threw you, so here... Take a sub that is DB rated at 96db efficiency.. and one that is rated at 86db efficiency.... apply 1000w to each... The sub that is 96db efficient will be FAR "louder" than the 86db rated sub. By simple virtue that it make more sound than heat... lol.. Power handling CHANGES with enclosure size.. It changes with port size if ported... Basically, if your sub is rated at 1000w, i'd throw 1500 at it... lol... but it's NOT about the SIZE of your WATTS, it's how you USE them... For instance, I'll be running ~150wrms PER sub, when I'm done with my system and I will likely be able to get lower, and maybe even LOUDER than you... based on how efficient my system will be..
