Door Ajar

Door Ajar light and dome lights come on sometime when right turn is made. Doors also unlock. Dome Light comes on and then goes off - and everthing is find until next turn or hard bump. I am just an end user not technical. Please respond in layman language.

Sounds like a loose connection. That could be difficult to narrow it down, but one by one you need to double check all the doors and hatch (and hatch glass if you have a '03-'08 model) to make sure they are all closed securely.

I tried shutting each door and feeling around the seals - but not sure where the senors are to check if there is a loose something or other. Someone suggested checking the wiring harness - not sure where and what to do.

Make sure your door jam sensors are working properly / give them a good cleaning.

What do the door jar sensors look like and where are they located. I see the latch, rubber gasket around the door and the hinges.

Have you upgraded anything in the vibe, such as Remote start, alarm, aftermarket power locks?Aron

Sharon, On your 2004 Vibe, the door ajar sensors will look like a soft rubber boot sticking out of the metal where the car door will hit them and push them in. Inside the rubber boot is a spring loaded push switch If I remember right, when you sit in the driver seat with the door open and hang your left arm down, you'll be pointing at one. Or touching one I guess depending on exactly where that switch is and how long your arms are. (don't have my Vibe with me today to go check)I don't know the best way to clean them or check them. I think they attach from the inside, so to get to them you'd probably need to pull off the plastic trim on the inside.One thing to check is that the rubber boots over all of them are still intact. If one of them is torn or cut, then dirt or water can get into the switch itself.The way those switches work, when you open the door, the switch closes and sends a ground (effectively connects a wire to the chassis of hte car, an electrical zero reference point) to tell a control module that the door is open. With the door shut, the switch disconnects the wire.If it's not one of the door switches, then it could be the control module, a part the book I have calls the "Integration Relay" Or it could be a wire somewhere that has rubbed the insulation off, and when the bare part of it touches the metal car frame, it's just like having a door open. (except there's less risk of falling out). It could be any of the door sensors, perhaps, but I don't have the power locks so I don't know. With the power locks locked, will opening any door cause the doors to unlock, or is it just the front ones? Since you said it happens when you take a right turn, then I'd look at the driver side switches first.also roll the window down, shut the door, then grab it and push/pull on it to see if there is any wiggle in the door when it's shut. The symptoms you describe could be caused by a loose latch in the door.

I have not upgraded or changed anything on the Vibe. This problem started during a trip with the car fully loaded.
