Studded snow tires

I'm probably going to have to buy 4 snow tires and steel rims for my Vibe. I won't install the studs initially, as they're illegal here. However, there's a good chance that, within a year, I'll be moving to a jurisdiction in which they're allowed.I'd appreciate any brand and model suggestions. Price is important to me, so I'll have to forget about getting the best on the market.

I'm also thinking about winter tires. First of all think SAFETY. your life stands on 4 rubber pieces about that big (read - small...) so, it`s much more important than anything else, isn't it? I know, price is important to you and depending your driving conditions (most of the time in snow, slush, wet, ice..?) take your time and read about the subject. I'll go for Goodyear UltraGrip Ice (these replacing the compagny's best sellilng winter tire of all time the F-32) and they turn into regular-compound snow tires at about half their tread depth (as per Blizzak Bridgestone), also looking for Toyo Observe or Nokian $$$.Good luck, let us know your choice.Price is important to me, so I'll have to forget about getting the best on the market.

Thanks for the link to that article, SCTM. I've read it, and I've looked at the links contained within it.I still haven't decided which brand and model I'll opt for. However, I know I'm going to get a set of 4, and I'll probably take a chance, and have studs installed, as well. I live in Ontario right now, and they're banned here. However, I may be moving to either Alberta or Colorado within a year.I'll keep you posted on my decision.

I previously owned the Blizzak (sp?) from Firestone on my truck and they made a world of difference. I'm sure studded would be so much better, but here in southern Ohio, you would overdoing it most of the time since the snow last for short periods.
