well i got pulled over yesterday for having tint in the front and got a fix it ticket. today went to take front off then went to the highway patrol station to get it checked. then went back to the tint shop and got it retinted. i didn't want to be paranoid anymore so i just ended up getting that same time i have on my windshield. car looks odd and i feel so naked but i think i'll get use to it i'm going to tint the back darker lol anyways here's what it looks like now...eye sore yikes!
oh man, that sucks... I'm sure that because the car is all black didn't help with the whole tint situation...I've had my tint for pretty much 2 years and I've NEVER had a problemI want to say I went 35/20 but I can't remember. and legal is 50 up front so I'm def. darker than should be up front.
Bummer! Yeah, I have 35 all around, and have never been pulled over either. I think it is because my sunroof lets in enough light to make it brighter inside the cabin.

i thought having darker tint on a dark car especially black won't be as noticeable lol well at least it's a fix it this time. on my previous car i had the exact tint and got a ticket. paid $130 or so last time. can cop pull you over just for tint? i didn't drive bad or anything not sure why i got pulled over =/
bummer. i've had 20% all around for a couple years now, havent been hassled by cops for tint since i had 5% on my last car.california cops love that kind of stuff i hear.
speaking of tint, how hard is it to see out w/ 5%? i plan on getting it on the back but since my fronts are pratically clearn now, i think it shouldn't be too bad huh?but yah i always thought cops only pull you over if you did something wrong and they'll also slap you on the face with the tint thing but this was just a punch in my face lol
Putting dark tint on your windows will always give the police justifiable cause to pull you over....even if they don't do so all the time.....they'll probably wait until some evening when its 2AM and you've had a beer ot two....or when you're on your way to someplace important like a job interview.....same for tinted license plate covers that are illegal...why give the police a reason to pull you over at the time and place of their choosing?
Yeah, it definitely looks naked without the darker tint on the front windows .This is the reason why I got 35% all around on the Vibe. Here in IL the front windows are not supposed to be tinted at all. I had 35% on the front windows and 15% on the rear windows on my '02 Sunfire GT and I got pulled over and got a $75 ticket. The cop pulled me over for other things, but ended up only giving me a ticket for the tint. If you live in a state where tint is illegal, the cops can and will pull you over just for tint. So far, knock on wood, I have yet to be pulled over in the Vibe, but 35% is pretty light and it can definitely be seen through, plus it's a Vibe so it's pretty inconspicuous .I am personally not a fan of really dark tint. I sure as hell wouldn't want to be a cop walking up to a car at night with dark tinted windows. You never know if someone's gonna roll the window down and shoot you or something. This is why they have tint laws. As far as getting 5% on the rear windows, good luck trying to back up at night. You won't be able to see anything. I can barely see backing into my driveway at night and my rear windows are only 35%.Just my $.02 though.

Just got pulled over Memorial weekend for the tinted (barely) license plate cover. Was worried about him getting me for my window tint, but that was it. Got off with a warning for the cover so I did take that off, stupid thing rattles anyways. I think he just wanted a reason to see "Conspiracy" close up Back in the day got the same fix it ticket in my Sunfire. I was mad because I didn't get a court date, just a date to comply by, so I wrote a paper on the inconsistency of tint laws across the U.S. and how my due process was violated due to the lack of a court date. Dropped it off with the clerk, kept my tint and never heard about it again.
Here in wild Maine we are only allowed 50% or higher. I came here from NW Montana and my commute scoot was a 1992 Suzuki Swift. I had legal 40% all around. In '96, a year after I moved to Maine, a young trooper with an even younger trooper-in-training measured the transmissivity (yup, they carry a transmissivity gadget in the trooper car !) and got a fix it ticket. The only reason I have been stopped in Maine. A tinting infraction! I guess I should be glad I wasn't sent to Guantanamo. If you put 51% on the car, the windows don't even look tinted. My old pickup has OEM rear and rear side window tint that is super dark, and that's fine. Same with any SUV or Van... ultra dark OEM tint is fine in Maine, but not aftermarket tint. Makes a lot of sense.

When I went for tinting, I wanted max legal tint on front and dark enough on the back to hide the stuff I'm carrying. The guy had a good idea to put 3 different tints to attenuate the effect plus he put a slightly darker than legal tint on front.Never been pulled for now and in 2007 they where very aggressive on that point here in Montreal.
Personally, I dont think it looks too bad as is. Maybe a little extra tint would look nicer, just to take the edge off . Only if there would be no repercussions from the police, of course. Back in Alberta Canada, there are VERY few cars with tinted fronts. My first car was bought in the US , then I drove it to Canada and had it there for a year. It had 20% all around. It was black too and I had big plans for tinted taillights, clearcorners, black powdercoated rims and calipers etc etc..... but thats another story.... I drove it for over 12 months without drawing any police attention. It was wierd to me since I felt like I really stood out in an all black car with blacked out windows. I can count one one hand the number of cars I'd seen on the Calgary streets like that. Then, alas , I decided to sell the car so I imported it , and the tint had to come off for it to pass an out of province inspection. Of course I forgot to do it before I dropped the car off for the inspection , so they offered to do it for $50. What could I do but say yes....

I went with the 5% tint primarily as a security measure to alleviate the ability to easily see into the cargo area.Your car looks fine with the lighter tint on the front. I know it is preferred to go dark on all side windows, but then there's that thing with the law. Like J_TO_ENVY said, just my $.02.PlatinumVibe08

yah actually it doesn't look too bad now...i guess i'm use to it lol yesterday i added a second layer of tint to the back. added 50% to darken it up a bit. i have 20% so plus the 50% that should be like 10% or something? i was about to add 35% as the second layer but was afraid it might be too dark. seems ok right now. having the back dark still makes the car feels dark so it's ok =D
bummer...got pulled over for front tint again i only have 40% tint in the front and it's not that dark lol oh well i guess i'm going back to that uneven look again =/wow it's almost exactly 6 months since i was pulled over last time haha

yah my front windshield is tinted 70% cop didn't even notice. i actually told him it's tinted 70% and he says that fine because he can see right in. not sure if it was a good idea telling him but i told him anyways. i told him i use it to block heat, not to make it dark and he says he understands and told me that as long as they can see you clearly through the windshield it's fine.i think i'm going to just limo the rear and 70% front windows =/ forget the even look lol
honestly i think it's good i got that ticket. gave me a reason to change it out lol i've been thinking about going back to black tint for a while so now that i got a ticket i have an excuse to redo it =D so yeah right now i have 15% rear and 70% fronts again hehe black cars look better with black tint!

I've got the grey 09 and am thinking grey (smoke?) tint rather than black. Anybody ever do grey(ish). Also I'm thinking just the 50% all the way around as the front can't be darker and I don't want the two-tone look of darker in back.
