2010 roof rack

Post by donaldj »

HiI was at a thule dealer and was told that that the factory installed Roof rack is useless and I will have to change it. Since it is tool low and does not have the correct weight rating. Secondly, the factory installed roof racked is installed too far back and even with their smallest cargo box I will not beable to open up the back hatch. Is this true? or was he trying to sell extra to me.

No that is not completely true. The load bars are rated the same as the thule ones. What components are you trying to install I had a thule rack for my previous cars. When I bought the vibe I tried to get new thule stuff they do not have the selection that yakima has. I only have a ski/snowboard rack, and a bike rack right now. The ski rack is fatcat 6 and the bike rack in the forklift. Tell me what components you want to better help you.

The factory rack is not completely useless. It depends on what you want to carry. I'm not 100% sure but I think the rear hatch will not open all the way if you put a box on the factory crossbars. I haven't seen any on the '09-'10 models so I can't guarantee my accuracy with this statement. I do know that the minimum bar spread for Thule boxes is 24".

The roof box can go on, with no problem. THe main issues is that you cannot open the rear hatch. Also, I contacted the dealer and the roof rack is rated at 165 lbs, but he ( service rep) recommended that you do not go pass 150 lbs.Which is what the thule ( 16 cub ft) is rated for.Don
