I have a squeak from the rear compartment, but could not able to pin-point the location. The more I listen to it, the sound seems like from the latch. Do anyone have similar problem? Mine is under 4000 miles.
I had some noise coming from the back and I think it was that organizer lid that was making the noise. After I made a carpet in the cargo area that noise went away.
My moms old SUV's hatch started to "squeak" whenever you would run over a bump.. Then it got to the point where it wouldn't shut all the way unless you slammed it.. hard. Mine has some noise.. but more of a thud.. I think its the straps that hold the spare tire down... Also, you may want to check and make sure your rear seats are latched all the way..
Check your spare tire and jack. It seems every new car I get that has that stuff in ear's shot, rattles loose; especially with the constant temperature changes during the winter months.
I took everything (plastic pieces, spare tire, etc.. in the rear compartment) off the car. Only thing left is the hatch. Not a rattle, it's squeak and it irritates me. BTW, the rear glass was broken before the dealer delivered the car to me. The dealer removed the rear rim, and I am wondering if they put it back properly. Last time they replaced the power window switch in my other car, they left a screw driver and broke 3 mounting tabs (rosebuds) and did not bother to replace the mouting tabs with new ones.
This might be a dumb question but did the rattle from the rear start after the temp dropped below freezing and if so, might it be coming from the rear wiper? Also if it is indeed the tailgate, sit in the driver seat while the car is off, lock the rear hatch and have someone grab the handle and try to shake the tailgate. This will at least isolate the problem to the tailgate or to something else. My guess, if it isn't the rear wiper with some weird ice build up thing, it might be a loose striker plate rattling.
The problem with our Vibe GT's is that we have the stiffer suspension which will eventually lead to rattles and other unpleasant noises. Also, in my case, I've yet to have the volume of the radio LOW enough to detect any noises at all. It's possible that I too have this rattle but until I turn the radio down, I'll never know of it. I'll do a test the next time I drive it (radio OFF) and maybe be able to offer some assistance!
