Hi folks!I just replaced the brake pads on my 2003 Vibe, after 85K miles. My car has rear drums.Do the brake shoes tend to need replacing when the pads do? Is there a way to tell how much life they have left without removing the drum? Thanks.
I don't know of a way to check them without removing the drum. Brake shoes last almost forever. I almost have 85,000 on my '05 and haven't even thought about the brake shoes yet. I wouldn't worry about them unless you are experiencing problems or hearing sounds from the back end.

jefframin: I did my shoes at 121,000 miles. I also had my mechanic flush the brake fluid since I had never had that done either. The point?: the shoes last a long time. you have a ways to go yet I bet.
usually the split is 60/40 60% front 40% backso usually the backs will be replaced on the second change of the fronts. They usually last twice as long as the fronts do "IF" they are properly adjusted.
