06 Vibe needs PCM - on national backorder?

Post by firevibe »

My 06 Vibe has stalled while driving 60 mph on the highway last week. My mechanic towed it, looked at it, decided it needs to be diagnosed at the dealership. Dealership's diagnosis is that the PCM failed internally and in needs to be replaced. With 60k this part is still under the 80k emission warranty, but it is on national backorder. I called around the local dealerships to see if any of 'em might have it, but of course they don't. One of them said they don't see any in the state! I live in northern VA. Anyone here has any idea how long it might take to get the part when it's on national backorder with no ETA? Should I start calling dealerships in other states or would it just be a waste of time? Hopefully tomorrow I'll find out if I get a loaner car while the Vibe is in the shop. Over the phone a lady said yes but I will believe it when I see it. So if anyone has any advice or happens to have the part sitting in their closet please let me know! :-) Thanks!

Mine went while I was at a drive thru near a dealership. I took it in and 25 minutes later, it was fixed and there was no charge. They said it was still under warantee. But I have to ask: If they are out of this part in your state, this sounds like more of a Recall than a Warrenty issue. But I looked all over for Recalls on my 05. Can't find one anywhere. Check with Holz Motors, Watertown WI, maybe they can ship it to you. Phone #920 261 5221 (no, I don't work there)

Yeah, one of the dealerships I called told me there is no recall on the car and I couldn't fine any trace of any recalls online either. Either way, the dealer I ended up taking it to was kind enough to get me a rental (Chevy Cobalt) free of charge until they get the part and fix the car. They have no idea how long it will be so we'll see! Until then I'll just enjoy my new Cobalt :-)

It has been in national back order for quite some time. Since Matrix Vibe and Corolla from 05-08 shared the same ECU that made from Delphi and that is cause making those model having hard starting problem in warm weather.

My car is fixed! It only took them a week after all, I was expecting much worse honestly. They ordered the part the day after thanksgiving and called me a week later that the car is ready to be picked up. I didn't get to it until the following Monday but that's alright cause I had a free rental so it's not like I was carless. Thanks for all the feedback!

Can you please tell me what a PCM is? I am having transmission issues in my newly acquired 06 vibe. The auto repair guys said it was the pressure control solenoid, replaced it, then the check engine light came back on and now they are saying it is some computer part that controls the pressure control solenoid. Is the PCM related to this? thanks

I hope there is an "Obeywan Kanobe" that is wiser than I. I know it's part of the drive train, and was covered under that warranty.

If I'm not mistaken PCM stands for Powertrain Computer Module. On my '06 Vibe - that is covered under 3/36k general warrany - this specific part is covered under a 8/80k warranty.

I seem to recall the PCM as being part of the emissions warranty, which is like 8 yrs/85,000 miles. We had my son's PCM replaced last year under warranty after it died on him 3 times in 2 days and then would not start.

Mine went out on my 2006 MUCH earlier. I want to say around... 28,000 miles? I was going about 50 MPH and the car just DIED. And my stomach just DROPPED...I was convinced it was a bad batch of gas from this podunk Canadian station I stopped in a couple days before. No offense, G.W.N.! Which, as it turns out, was not the problem.Got it towed at no charge, and dealer replaced the PCM under the 8 years/80,000 mile part warranty everybody is referring to. Been running like a top over 2 years later.

I received a Safety Recall Notice for my car a couple of days ago for a defect for of the PCM or Powertrain Control Module. It states that the PCM in certain 2005 vibe models (1.8L MFI engine & 2-wheel drive transmissions) may have been improperly manufactured. They are working with their suppliers to obtain the parts needed for this recall asap. They will send me another letter when parts are available to take my vehicle to my gm dealer (which closed btw)... Then states when parts are available my GM dealer will inspect the production number of the PCM in my vehicle and if necessary replace it at no cost to me. Any questions contact the Pontiac Customer Assistance Center at 800-620-7668.While I've had no problems for my '05 w/68K miles I guess I'll call to see: 1) if the product # is something that is quick/easy to determine; and if so 2) if I should just bring it in rather then wait to see if they can confirm production # so I'll know whether it is something to worry about until said part comes in.
