I'm pretty sure they vary a little by state, but I took one in NY years ago.I wish everyone would take the course every few years to remind them to obey speed limits and leave enough following distance. The course I took was taught by a retired NYPD Highway Patrolman and was a good class. (especially the story he told about letting a guy off for speeding because he had just dropped the kids off at school and was trying to get back home for some long delayed "marital relations" )National Safety Council (green cross) offers DDC's nationwide. http://www.nsc.org/ddc/training/index.aspx Usually an in person course is 6 to 8 hours and you generally have an instructor take you through a workbook and watch a video. If you have points on your license, it may reduce them. It may also give you a discount on your insurance.Check with your insurance co.; they may allow you to take an online course instead.

I can't remember a whole lot of it anymore as it probably was like 20 years ago.I remember they used something they called "camel snot" to make the surface of a parking lot slippery for us to try to drive through.I'm thinking of picking this up: http://www.positscience.com/ou...sharp

I enjoyed my course and main reason I took it cause it helped get my licence faster, wait 9 months instead of 12 with my learners licence and also gave me a break on my 1st years insurance. All in all I agree that everyone should take it teaches you lots of things and what most parents won't or don't know about driving
i took my defensive driving online here: http://www.defensivedribing.com although i think it is only for Texas, but im not too sure. but there are many out there and they may very by state.
Yeah, traffic school online courses are great actually. I had taken it 3 different times now. The first was the actual class where I had to take a whole day from work to take it, then if I did not pass, I would have to re-take it again, wasting another day. Luckily I was able to pass. The other 2 was online and it took the same amount of hours (6 hours required) but I can take it at my leisure. So, I can take it a few lessons here and there and be done with it before the due date that is assigned by the court. You have to pay attention to get the questions answered and you must take the full 6 hours that is required. The lessons would not advance until the required time is spent. Overall is it great. Good Luck.
did the evasive driving course at Summit Point. I actually dropped out once I found out that I had to ride in the back seat while the other students attempted to kill themselves (and their passengers). They do this so you can provide feedback to the driver on what they did right/wrong. Here's my feedback: get me the heck out of this car; I've got a family that needs me at home in one piece. While it is tough to flip a Caprice Classic, tell that to your brain as you watch some pumped up idiot "impress" his way around the track. I don't mind doing maneuvers when I'm the driver, but don't expect me to sit in the back while some novice crashes, spins and rockets around the course. I think that class ended my ability to sit quietly in the passenger seat. I need to be the one hugging the wheel!!
EVOC school and Skip Barber is in my wallet, took both courses when I had my 2005 Police Interceptor. I LOVE TECHNICAL DRIVING.Set up the cones and I am there

This looks like a good way to separate you from your money and that about it. You'd be just as well off if you took some memory enhancing vitamins. If you really want a good driving course, take a so-called high performance driving course from a certified driving school at a track. I know personally that it will give you all the enhancement you need, and is REALLY fun at the same time. I did mine in the mid-'80's @ Pocono International Raceway from Bertyl Roos. The online stuff, which I did once a few years ago because of a ticket, is outdated and very High School. It reminded me of HS Driver's Ed that I had in the early '70's... only slightly useful.

took it in NY state several yrs ago through AAA.was not expensive and saved $$$ on insurance, but mostly everyone there took the course for pt reductionsdownside: 6 hrs long (or two three hour nights are an option), but it was sooooooooooo boring, it was hard to pay attention, and I actually tried to do so
