I recently bought a 02 1zz engine complete for $75. Hell of a deal, so I couldn't pass it up. I plan on rebuilding it over the winter (due to high oil consumption) and replacing my clanky oil deprived stock engine. Is everything going to be compatible between the 02 and the 03 engine? They look identical, but maybe there was something I didn't know about. Also, on the older 1zz engines, the oil consumption issue was due to stuck piston rings, right?
'02 1ZZ-FE out of what? It'll swap over almost completely, but if it's out of a different vehicle (like a Corolla) you'll need to use some fitment parts from your Vibe. If it's from an '02 Vibe almost everything should swap over directly. The piston rings going bad or sticking are thought to be a major part of high oil consumption, but I've also read that the all-aluminum engine with sleeved pistons just naturally uses some oil, even a half quart between changes. A rebuild with high quality sleeves and rings should fix problems caused with faulty stockers, but my guess would also be that engines with 'high' consumption are just using slightly more oil past what they usually do.
A good bit of the '03 Vibes were first produced in 2002, so they'd still use a 2002-produced 1ZZ-FE.If the motor is out of something from model year 2002, that's different.
corolla, celica and a couple things not made in the us... Why wouldnt a corolla 1zz-fe fit a vibe? maybe the engine mounts maybe but I think its almost a perfect fit.I will say I think the exhaust headers on the celica 1zz were different...maybe the IM too BUT the engine block is the same.
The engine itself will fit, but like I said, the fitment parts specifc to the Vibe (engine mounts, intake, exhaust, etc.) will have to be used. Not a problem, just use the exisiting parts when the rebuild is ready to drop in.
