Airbag door

Post by Thunderscreech »

Does anyone know if the passenger-side airbag door pops out easily? I'd like to maybe paint it without getting a face-full of airbag.

Don't do it while you drive... look what Tiger did trying to get his off! I don't have a clue how to get it off, without hitting a tree or something pretty stout. Can't see how the air bag would pop if you are just taking the cover off. For more safety, though... disconnect the battery and wait a few seconds so all systems discharge to make sure you can't fire the bag.Someone on the site will come up with the answer how to take the cover off properly.

Heh heh, my thoughts too. I'm hoping someone will say "Just pry the heck out of it, it'll pop out and goes right back in" instead of "You can only remove it by taking the entire dash apart, and the back is covered with cobra venom and will kill you if you touch it". Or something.

I don't think it will deploy by removing the cover. It needs a signal from one of the impact sensors which are usually located somewhere else in the vehicle. Good luck.

To be on the safe side I would remove the dash. Dash removal isn't a real PITA, just 4 screws, the nut securing the airbag to the dash support and the airbag connector. I have never looked at the dood but I would assume it mounts from the under side.Aron
