Frozen lake fun and other winter driving enjoyment (picture heavy)

Post by star_deceiver »

7:00 am on Swan lake (before all the ice fisherman and kids get there) Rmember boys and girls, safety first!!! Be sure to turn OFF Traction and Stability control!!!Taking pics while drifting at 80km/h, holding the camera steady isn't as easy as it looks...The Ice is about 10-12 inches thick and if 6000lb SUV's towing dirt bikes and snowmobiles arn't breaking through I think the 3000lb Vibe is safe!Daylight is arriving and so are people, time to move on!Keeping the rev's up keeps the car very responsive!!! Remember to come properly equipped!!!

There's an oval plowed on the lake!! Much fun!!! Drifting through corners isn't just reserved for the RWD crowd (although it does make donuts easier...)!The dirtbikes with those wicked studs make it look easy!

agreed. That would scare me to death as well; although it reminds me of my ice fishing days up in Bear Mtn. Ah, where did I put those tip ups?

The first few minutes were a little tense. But the big pickups and SUV's arn't breaking through so the ice is thick enough! The lake is quite shallow and freezes quickly once the temps drom.Plus most of the ice fishermen stick within 100ft of the shore where all the reeds are so there arn't any holes out further.

Very cool! Do they actually keep an oval plowed on the ice?I learned to drive on a lake when I was a kid. Everyone should do it. You learn real driving dynamics and a lot about physics. It's a great classroom! Still love to drive on ice... especially when there's no one else around.

You're having way too much fun out there.

Almost dropped down to a lake near by, but temperatures have not allowed ice to thicken enough. We've had a few ice fishing derbies cancelled or moved to later dates in February, in hopes of thicker ice by then. Heard in the news, that a pickup went through the ice last week. Driver got out in time... but the truck went to the bottom. Tough year for ice here with too many thaws between the cold snaps. Winter got a pretty late start... we just finally had our first really significant snow storm of the Winter season yesterday, but it looks like we'll already warm above freezing again by Monday!

Maybe next year!
