Remote Start Question

Do I need a bypass for my '05 AWD to install a remote start. Remember the AWD's have have a cable throttle the same electronics as the '03-'04' FWD

I did a search at http://www.bypasskit.com/ for a 2005 Pontiac Vibe and it did not list any bypass modules, so it seems that you don't need one. All Vibes up to and including the '07 do not have any bypass modules listed. '08 and newer do.Oddly enough, the '05 Matrix does have bypass modules listed. So I don't know if the site is wrong, or if they really didn't put immobilizers into the Vibes.If someone else doesn't have a more definitive answer, I've heard that you can test it by wrapping the top of your key with aluminium foil and starting your car. If there is a chip, the car will crank, but won't start.

Thanks. Yeah, I was told that the matrix requires one. I am hoping someone can reply that knows for the Vibe if it for sure needs one as I might get this done as soon as this weekend.

I want to know beforehand so they don't try and say it needs one and try to charge me for it, if it really does not need it.

They don't specify kits for specific vehicles. Just generic set-ups and they don't include or offer a bypass kit anyway. And CF costs more for just the unit than I can get it for installed locally.

I found a site: http://www.mypushcart.com/bypasscompat.htm that says it is not required for my year vibe. GOOD!!!!

Sorry for a late reply Brian but for anyone else curious the remote start bypass is only needed on the 08 or newer Vibes, 05 or newer Rollas and Trix.Aron

Thanks, Aron. I do have a couple companies that say I might have to give up a key and have it wrapped with the remote start unit. They are saying the key might have a chip in it? Anyone know if this is true?

According to that site you found and audiovibe, your car does not need a bypass, which means your key does not have a chip in it.Even if your key had a chip in it, there are bypass modules that do not require you to give up a key.

The remote start is in!!!! I love it. It did not require a bypass as we found out earlier. Only Cost $210 installed and took an hour for the guy to install it. Has a lifetime warrany too. I bought the Autopage RS-625 w/2-way remote. Definitely worth the money. The Aztek install is on Sunday for wifey's x-mas gift. http://www.autopageusa.com/t_i...6d261

So does it have two key fobs one to start the car and one for communications signal that the car is running? I have had one in my car for two years now and I love the fact that the car can be on its way to being warmed up but the gas mileage goes way down in the winter.

The other one is a 1-way remote that you would need to visually see if the car is running. The 2-way is awesome. 1500ft range and I can start my car from my upstairs office at work, it gives a confirmation signal that the car is running and by the time I get down to the car it is nice and toasty. I mainly got it for myself because my work is 1/2 mile from home and my car never had a chance to warm up. I felt I was slowly killing the car. It runs so much more smoothly now that it is warmed up on cold days. Once bonus with the remote start is I can now lock and unlock the car with the Autopage remote while the car is running....try doing that with the factory remote.....you can't!!

just a word to the wise. Most citys/towns have laws that makes leaving an unattended car running a ticketable offence even in a private driveway. Just a word to the wise, don't be shocked if you see a ticket on your windshield one day.

Here, they can only ticket you if you leave it running (with the keys in the ignition) & unattended on a city street or alley. It is called the open ignition law. They cannot ticket you for leaving it in your garage or driveway unattended while running or even at my work or grocery store or mall or anyplace other than a street or alley. Why does it start with the hood open? As far as I know, all remote starters have a safety feature so that if the hood is open, the car won't start. Or if the car is started, opening the hood will stop it.
