Check engine light came on at around 40,000 miles, yesterday. The engine does seem to sound a little different/louder. Does this sound familiar to anyone else? If so what was the outcome?
Can you give us a few more details? The engine getting louder doesn't give us much to go on. Your best bet is to put a scanner on it and give us the code.

The engine seems to labor a little bit more. I also disconnected the battery to reset the CEL. I drove the car about 5 miles after reconnect to see if CEL came back on, it hasn't so far.
Sometimes if you lave the gas cap loose you will get a light. The system can detect that the leak through the gas cap. If everything seems pretty normal, thats probably the problem
most dealers will te3ll you its not a big deal most of time. As someone said, try venting the gas cap then replacing. It may take a few miles and restarts for the code to reset. If it keeps coming back, You can borrow a sensor from Advance Auto or somewhere and download the code. Then call a dealer service guy and relay the code. Most don't want to run up a bill for nothing and will know what codes do indicate trouble

This JUST happened to me tonite. I drove it during lunch and it was fine. I left work to go home (a good 45min drive) and as soon as I started the car the engine light came on and stayed on. I called my dealer and I'm bringing it in on Thursday. He had asked me about the gas cap thing (which I already ready about in the manual) and no, I didnt just get gas...I've got less than half a tank. My Vibe's a 2007. I've only had it just over 9 months but I put a LOT of miles on it. It had 18000 when I got it and it's now around 40,100.
I have a 2005 vibe with 50,000 miles on it and the same thing happened to me last week! It's a conspiracy!!! I was just below half a tank, filled up and it went away. Drove it for a week and at around the same place on the gas gauge it's back on.For now I'm going to drive it until the tank is empty refill and see if I can duplicate the problem again.
So here's what I was told. Fault code P0171. Random misfire detected. They reset the service engine soon light thing and he couldn't get it to do it again (I assume this misfire thing) and it's "currently running fine". Recommended to put "injector cleaner" in the gas tank. Fine. I told him to go ahead and do that. They also changed the oil and rotated the tires (I LOVE my Vibe but don't get me started on the effing tires). All this to the tune of $99.03. So it seems to me that he just cleared the brain of the "service engine soon" alert so that it doesn't come on again. I dont know. I haven't driven it anywhere yet to really feel it out. I HAVE noticed once or maybe twice before this happened that at a stoplight it seemed to be sluggish, ALMOST like it might die at the stoplight. Oh! And my bill says that "push pins holding splash shield on were missing" so they installed 3 new ones. What's a splash shield...the mud flaps/splash guards?
yes, it is the mud flaps. If anyone has gotten a P0133 code recently, my bet is that it is due to the recent cold snap in areas not prone to getting so cold. Happened to me yesterday. Cleared the code and so far it has not come back .
