Magnaflow Cat-back Exhaust

Post by Amtron »

Yes, I know this is a repeat thread, and yes I have read the others, but I just want a few tips/pointers.So I'm going to be buying a magnaflow cat-back exhaust sometime in the near future. It will be my first significant performance mod, so I'm excited! I decided I will be getting it from a shop in Ottawa, where they will take care of importing it and installing it.Anyways, I was wondering if someone could tell me how long this install should take if they do it for me so I don't get ripped off. Also, maybe someone could throw me a little info whether they were satisfied with the exhaust (preferably someone with a base model, but it doesn't matteR), or not satisfied and why.And finally, does this exhaust have a catalyc converter? Thanks for the help in advance, lemme know!

it took less than an hour to install it in my driveway. You cut off the existing pipe just behind the cat, remove the old pipe, install and hang the new pipe. If they weld it too it might make it a full hour.I read somewhere where someone had their Magnaflow pipe welded and Magnaflow voided the warranty. Not sure if he was getting jerked around or if anyone else had the same problem.

I don't know how much you are paying for the system in Ottawa but my guess is too much. The main Magnaflow distributor in Canada (Hott Exhaust) is located in Woodbridge, On. They sell them for $448.41 with free shipping I believe. It's an excellent system with a very nice sound, you will be pleased.P.S. Add a DC Sports header for even more power and sound!

I for one don't know if it is a catless exhaust or not but all of my friends who have gone catback have removed their catalytic converters anyways. It's pointless to have them, especially if you go to organized track meets with your car. I found the same exhaust online for $350, so it sounds like you might need to look somewhere else to get it. It shouldn't cost too much extra, it may take about an hour for them to cut the existing pipe and weld it on. I'd ultimately be looking at right around 500 bucks if you find one for $350. Good luck to you!

a cat back exhaust ie. magnaflow cat back and TRD will come with a cat.The TRD is a rebadged Borla, so unless the TRD is cheaper than the magnaflow not worth it imo. Both the Borla and Magnaflow sound like a lower rumble, either one is a good choice. There were people having issues with the baffling in the magnaflow's break though....so make sure if you go maganflow to keep the info for warranty purposes.

Cat-Back exhausts DO NOT come with a cat. They are the complete exhaust AFTER the cat. You cut off your factory exhaust right after the cat. And please DO NOT run with no cat. They are there for a reason. It is pointless, you will not see a boost in hp, and it sounds terrible in my opinion. VERY bad for the environment and we all should start opening our eyes to that.

I believe it is illegal to drive without it in my area anyways. Plus I would fail and emissions test, and obviously failing an emissions test means your car is not good for the environment...

Cutting your cat off wont get you very far in emissions testing. =p I wish I had the money to change my exhaust and intake and headers and valves and add a turbo.... but I would be happy with just exhaust...

I think they have a place they ship from on both sides of the border, but I don't know. They have a shipping map you can check out too that shows you how long it will take to get there...and it was very acccurate.

It's installed!! Took the guy 35 minutes or so. It fit perfectly and he noted how easily it went in like 3 times while I was watching. The only problem he had when installing it was the bolts where the exhaust connects needed to be pushed together slightly.Love the sound. Love the look. Noticed slightly better performance, but I didn't have anything to compare too. The performance is good enough to recommend to everyone else. Yay!My first big mod!

Hey guys, good news – I just got a Magnaflow Catback installed on my ‘03 Vibe yesterday J.I bought it from Genviber Amtron; we swapped because he sold his ‘06 Abyss Vibe. So far I’ve driven 150 k/ms on all types of roads at all reasonable speeds. There are numerous reviews of the exhaust on here, but not one of them entirely matched my experience, so here’s mine:(Right now, the only other power mod I have is the K&N SRI with an SLP functioning Ram Air hood)First, the exhaust sounds fantastic on startup as the engine does that quick rev up, then back to idle. Nice little rumble and growl. My parking space at my apartment is in a corner of the underground parking garage, surrounded on 4 sides by echoey concrete goodness. The exhaust sounds amazing touring around town at low RPMs, and it growls nicely even under gentle acceleration. I’ve had a few copilots who all thoroughly approved. What kind of surprised me is that the exhaust note is pretty much like the stock unit above 4000RPMs. I was expecting to go through a newbie phase of high RPM shifting on my daily ramp & underpass pulls, but unlike when I first got the SRI, there’s consistently no sound benefit to driving the car harder with the Magnaflow CB, with my set-up.In terms of HP and torque, it’s exactly like everyone on here says – a little noticeable, but not alone enough to justify full MSRP. Where I have and will benefit the most from the less restriction is highway passing. There is what I would call a remarkable improvement in the ability of the car to pull harder in 5th gear, which will save me many a downshift when trying to calmly and safely get around those misguided souls going 90km/hr in the highway left lane, or those insisting on traveling half the maximum speed limit at the end of an onramp. I'm going to have to look into insulating the rattling it does going up and down over bumps (mostly probably due to my sweet springs/struts). In the fall (once I have some free play $), I will put a DC header on. I can barely wait! All in all, my opinion is that the Magnaflow CB is a very worthwhile investment in smiles-per-gallon.

well the fine folks that engineered them are just looking at cost saving measure otherwise ever car truck suv or whatever would be perfect enough to negate any aftermarket products. That's why there is an aftermarket to advance on what is alredy given to us. That's why it costs money to do these thing. Those fine folks do what they can for safety compliance and to save money. if they didn't cars would be outrageous and no one could afford them.

I have magnaflow too and love it, you can usually get a used one on ebay or cragislist. I wanted a valid warranty so I got it here. Magnaflow 14580. Also some of the forum sponsors selling magnaflow usually have a sale going on. Either way its a great cat, sounds great, and very easy to install.

Anybody find that their MPGs severely dropped on this? I know the increase in HP will make it go down a bit, but what about sustained speeds on the highway? I like getting 35ish :-)
