I want to get a remote start installed in my 2009 Vibe GT. I see that Toyota offers a factory remote start but when I inquired with two different Toyota dealers in town they quoted me $399 for the unit and an additional $350 for installation. OUCH!!! So I am wondering if any of you out there have had a remote start installed, who installed it, and what brand/ model did you go with? By the way, I have the factory Alarm if that makes any difference.
I found a guy on my local craigslist that installed two Autopage RS-625 Remote starts on my Vibe for $210 (no bypass kit) and the wife's Aztek $270 (w/ bypass kit).He offers a lifetime warranty against parts and labor. Check around locally dealers charge up the a$$ for everything.Check out my remote start thread: http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=39611

If you are in Michigan have you went to see Mickey Shorr. http://www.mickeyshorr.com/They have done some work for me and my family and so far it has been easy to deal with them.
If God didn’t want us to eat meat, why did he make the cow so slow? (Ever eaten a cheetah-burger? Nope. And you never will.)
Unfortunately I had a bad experience with Mickey Shore years ago. They installed a remote start/Alarm in a former car and just about destroyed the electronics in the car. Cruise Control was toast, the radio went wonky and they claimed it wasn't their fault.
Im really wanting to add one to my 09 GT as well. I have seen some on the internet that you can just use your factory KeyFob. This would be really nice since you wouldn't have another remote hanging.. I haven't got a chance to stop by an audio store to see if they could do it.. Im assuming that any place that install radios could put one in..

Something like 80ft, where Viper advertises 1 mile range (5000+ ft). Or if you're going nuts and have an iPhone, you can get their SmartStart module that allows you to lock/unlock/start/stop your car from your phone from almost anywhere (module is about $200 on top of the alarm + $30/year subscription, first year free). One quirk about the Toyota remote starter is that it shuts off the car whenever you unlock a door. So when you go to get in the car, it will shut off and you have to start it again.
I went to Best Buy today as I saw in this week's ad that they have the Viper 5301 Remote Car Starter for $299 Installed Sounds good but when I went their they told me that the Vibe needs extra parts so it would be $464 plus tax for me. Funny how they can advertise one price and charge you another.

There is a shop in Rochester, MI that is installing remote starts (small extra fob and good quality - I checked it out) for the mid $200 range out the door. Place is called "Sound Advantage" and here is their sitehttp://www.soundadvantagesystems.com/locations.asp

I got a quote for the Viper 5901 Starter & Alarm and it was ridiculous. The bypass was extra for the part/labor which I understand, but they charge extra for every single wire they need to hook up!! Door locks? Extra. Second starter wire? Extra. Second ignition wire? Extra. It's $30-50 for each "extra", so it adds up really fast.
