check engine light and power loss

Post by marleyfan61 »

Tried to take out my wife's 05 Vibe yesterday. I noticed that the check engine light came on when I started it up but decided to take it anyway (short trip). The car wouldn't go higher than 2000 rpm. I pulled back into the driveway and it began to idle rough, then normal, and alternated like that every 5 seconds or so. My question: does this sound mechanical or is it likely a computer thing? Haven't had a chance to take it to the dealer yet but thought I'd ask here first.

It sounds like an EGR valve. It could also be the throttle body getting stuck out of position from carbon build up.

Could be the MAF. Check out this thread http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=39550. Is yours acting like mine did?
