Altimax Arctic

Post by cycleb »

Anybody been using them? I just had them mounted. Have very good reviews, were reasonably priced, and can be studded if needed. Already, on wet roads feel more stable than the stock tires.

holy crap...I JUST bought these today! I got 15" wheels and these altimax artic tires mounted form tirerack. They are highly rated and recommended by consumer reports. their tread pattern is very similar to the snow tires I had on my MS3 last winter and that faired VERY well for my area. Im excited to use these. Here is the tread pattern:

Had the opportunity to try them in the loose and packed snow, they are much better than the all seasons. It still was possible to break traction, but that took some doing. Highly recommended for the increased stopping power alone.

First winter with them on and already had its first test yesterday. We received about 20cm of snow and tires gripped super well. I have full confidence in them

put them on late last month. So far they're great. My only complaint is that they didn't come with more snow got them in a 205/60/16 (for a few bucks less than the 55's), which is a tad overheight. Glad I did as they don't seem to absorb road shock as well as the stock all seasons. Also they are a bit non-grabby on dry roads, which may just be the tire losing its curing compound. But in snow its a trooper -- I think it and the Winterforce are the two "best values" in snow tires. Its built in Germany according to TirerackAll the General tires are soundly made and great bang for the buck. It has a compact model line which more than holds its own against Bridgestone, Michelin, etc. I have a friend who owns the Altimax all-season and loves them. The Exclaim looks like a solid high performance tire, for a few bucks more.
