2009 vibe dash speakers

Post by Silver »

I'd like to add in dash speakers into my 2009 vibe. I know that the 09 Matrix with the JBL system has 2 speakers in the dash and it adds a good deal of sound depth. (i have dash speakers in my old Neon and going from that to the Vibe I notice a huge "dead" area from above dash area.)Wondering if anyone has taken apart the dash on a 2009/2010 vibe or matrix and could answer a few questions... How do you take apart the dash?Is there a place (bracket) there for speakers? Is there a harness? Thanks,Silver

Where exactly is the location of the speakers on or in the dash?

I'm not sure, I have a Vibe, the only time i saw the JBL system in a Matrix was at the dealership. So it's kinda what I'm trying to figure out. From what I saw the speakers are in the dash not on. they are in the corners very close to the windows. Looks like they may be 2"-3" full range (like in the neon) and not just tweeters from the size of the grill, but I'm not sure since I couldn't take the dash apart . I've been trying to find a good photo of the position but i can't find one.

You could also look into doing an a-pillar mounted speaker. The most common setup would consist of a new set of components with the woofer in the door location and and the tweeter in the a-pillar or sail panel opposite of the side mirrors. This option could aid in height, depth, and staging. This method would require about the same amount of work but would be cheaper in the long run as you wouldnt have to cut the dash.Aron

Thanks for the replyYeah I've thought about doing that too, but the sound is just not the same with tweeters there as opposed to pointing up at the glass and bouncing straight at you (I know, I very picky and technically tweeters pointing in do fill in the sound field.), Although i may still end up doing this depending on how difficult it would be to get speakers under the dash.I was also worried about the side curtain airbags that are hiding behind there. would speakers interfere with them? Another option i was thinking about is to put the tweeters in the little triangle o' plastic on the door, not sure if there's enough room there though. My ideal setup would still be to stick 2x3.5" full range speakers in the dash if it's possible.

DOH!!!Forgot the airbags. There should be plenty of room in the sail panel (triangle piece). You could also source a totaled 09 matrix and get the dash out of it that has the mounting holes, but it might still cost ya.Aron

sail panel! forgot what it was called I'll take a look when i take my door apart (i just got some cheap Polk bd651's to replace the stock speakers)Next year when it warms up a bit I plan on going junkyard hopping to see if i can find any vibes or martixes. I have a few parts i want to find (fog lights, lights and intermittent wiper stalk. i got a 1.8l) I'll also be looking for a martix dash there, but there really aren't that many with the JBL system, i could only find a few cars that had it when i was looking at the dealership. It's worth a shot, never know i may get lucky and find one. Till then i'll keep looking around and see if i can find any pics or a repair manual that shows a diagram of the dash.

The Monsoon sound system on the 09 comes with tweeters in the sail panels, so for sure there is room there.
