Yes, But.... you should keep a record of it, you can use your service book that came with the car, and you should keep the receipts to prove oil and filter purchases.I do think that technically you could make a stink and get your engine repaired anyway, even if you can't "prove" service.Dave
+1 on keeping receipts! When I went in to ask about the recall, http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=38522 they asked me if I wanted to set up a service appointment as well. I told them no and they told me to just keep the receipts. And since oil changes are pretty much all that's required (unless you own a slushbox) those receipts don't take up that much room in the accordion file.
Don't ever get anything done at the dealer, unless you don't want to live. As for receipts, court case after court case has proven that the burden of proof is on the dealer to show that you did not do oil changes, and that significant amounts of carbon and sludge have built up inside the engine. Keeping receipts is a fine idea, but since I do my oil changes every 5,000 miles, I have no worries of a dealer finding anything but a squeaky clean pan if they decided to pull it and have a look.
On my cars, I have never had a problem with a dealer honoring it. I STILL would keep ALL reciepts for everything in a file at home. With Pontiac no longer around, it is just a good idea. Kept in a car, the printing will fade. Make notations in your maintenance schedule book as well.
